I am doing this kitchen remotely... I am in Los Angeles and my summer cabin is in New York State. It is a summer bungalow, built on piers. I had added on a kitchen when I bought it, also built on piers. I had a contractor tear it down, put in a basement and at this point the new kitchen is framed and the roof is on. I'll be going there in a couple of weeks, and by then it should be all closed in with windows installed and finished flooring and drywall completed. I'm going to do the rest myself. Will put in the Stat cabinets, some with glass doors. The main work area of the kitchen will have an 8 foot ceiling, but the rest will follow the pitch of the roof with 2 skylights. That area will also have a gas fireplace with a mantle and bookshelves for cookbooks built around it. There will be an island in the center that I am creating from a 36" base cabinet with drawers on one side and a built in wine refrigerator and trash receptacles on the other - beaded board on the ends. Right now I'm struggling with countertop issues... I want to put in white ceramic tile on everything but the island because I have that here in Los Angeles and it is the most maintenance free surface I've ever used, but I can't tackle that job myself and I'm probably going to have a hard time lining up a contractor to do it during the busy summer season. Also haven't decided on a sink yet.
