Yippee on the start date! July 17th...that's next Monday...you must be so excited! This being summer, are you going to be there while your contractor works? Working on your manuscript, perhaps?

Thank you, Susan, though terrified is perhaps the more accurate term! I have SOOO much to do before Monday. I'll *try* to work on my manuscript, but I imagine that Monday will just be too distracting for me.
Hi everyone! I'm Suzanne and a veteran "IKEAian". My first trip to IKEA was the San Diego store when we lived there. My DH was transferred to Atlanta and we just got the Atlanta IKEA back in July 2005.....I was thrilled!
I started designing my kitchen last fall. So I played around alot with the kitchen planner online.Fast forward.......my cabinets are scheduled to be delivered tomorrow AM!!!! I'm doing the kitchen in Kelsebo (as I wanted a wood look, but since the kitchen is so dark, I went for a lighter color) and the wall cabinets have the glass fronts. I got the hardware from Restoration Hardware (rustic pewter). Also...we have new stainless appliances. The floors will be a light cherry from Shaw. But I'm still at a loss for wall color...I'm thinking of a Venetian Plaster from Behr in Agean Blue on the main wall and the other walls will be a very light beige....although any color recommendations are welcome!
I wanted to thank all of you for the outstanding advise and beautiful photos you have posted. I am so happy I found this site before putting the kitchen in!
Welcome Suzanne! Your choices sound lovely -- the Venetian Plaster is always a nice look. Are you DIYing your install, or do you have a contractor/installer that you're working with?
If you haven't already found it, there's a Progress Blogs forum -- feel free to start yourself a blog so that we can follow along with your progress. If you hadn't noticed, we're a nosy bunch...but in a good way!
Enjoy the ride, and don't forget to come up for air.

Yes, we are DIYers......at least so far! With the exception of plumbing and electrical. Too dangerous for us rookies!
Thanks so much! This is such a lovely site and I appreciate the welcome! I'll check out the Progress Blog!
Forgive my bad etiguette... I just noticed this "introductions" thread a few days ago - and I joined months ago!
I'm Barbara, and my DH and I are in the middle of DIYing our kitchen, which is being built into our former dining/breakfast room (we think it was the kitchen many owners ago...this is an 1892 house). Our current closet of a kitchen is almost functional minus the stove since we moved the gas line a couple weeks ago. It would be too hot to use it now anyway.
I'm attempting to attach a pic of my 2 DD's and me...
Thanks all, for the info and inspiration! I appreciate all your clever work, Susan!

That's perhaps one of the best photos I've ever seen. Welcome to the forums, BarbaraK!

Hello
I just noticed this area! The skill and creativity displayed on this site is truly extraordinary! I've been learning and gaining inspiration from many of you since before this site was born. So, it feels good to finally come in out of the dark and get up the nerve to join!
So, here I am and oh what a project I have before me :? We have been roughing it with a microwave, electric skillet and grill for a long time now and it has to end!
By the end of this... does it ever end? I will have truly stretched the limits of modification! Since probookie lives so close, I have already emailed saying please, please a cutdown and re-drill tutorial please!
Here's to the day I no longer have to wash dishes in the laundry sink and cook on the library table! Maybe a virtual dinner party to celebrate the feat?
