Well okay, after lurking here for a while now and digesting all the amazing projects everyone's got going on, I guess it's my turn for introductions. My name's Matt, and I live in a condo in southern New Hampshire (near what meager seacoast we've got) with my wife, 18-month old daughter, and overly excitable Schnoodle. I've been an Ikea fan for years now, and consequently I'm very thankful the Stoughton store opened up and saved me from driving to New Haven or - god forbid - Elizabeth for my fix. It's far easier to handle a day at Ikea when the drive is only a hour and a half (starting off with a plate o' meatballs helps too).
Our condo is full of Ikea - I'll have to get some photos up at some point - including pieces we bought but haven't yet managed to figure out where they go (typical Ikea shopper). We're intending to update our small kitchen at some point when funds allow. For now a quick and inexpensive half bath redo will have to suffice. I may have some questions for you all about that.
In the meantime, I'll be keeping an eye on everyone else's progress. Keep up the great work! And thanks to the big G.O.D. for creating the site!
Hi Matt--welcome! No you're not the only guy here, but there are more women as far as I can tell. What's a schnoodle? (Schnauzer/Poodle?) This site's been great. I've learned so much in the few months that I've been following it, and it's really coming in handy now that my project's actually coming together. To actually put this site together was a stroke of brilliance, I think. Thanks Susan and everyone else!
You got it, schnauzer/poodle = schnoodle. There are other *oodles out there: labradoodles, goldendoodles, etc. All the fun of the non *oodle breed with the hypoallergenic benefits of the poodle. Of course, with the schnauzer comes the digging and the yapping. But no sneezing, so I guess it all balances out.

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks as we await the keys to the new apartment we've bought. Work will most likely start in late August after a major demo job to take out a couple of interior walls, and I'll start a progress blog then.
The building is a 1907 Edwardian of the type locally referred to as a "Romeo" building. The kitchen will be receiving its first major updates in 50+ years when we take possession of it, and I can tell you that when I have interior pics to post the former winner of the Worst Kitchen contest is going down. The sink is in a closet, the fridge is out on a utility porch, and the interior of the kitchen is dominated by a huge (and very cool, but unusable) stove from the 1950s. I've attached the only pic I currently have.
Thankfully, the Johnny-on-the-spot out front is not our toilet. It belongs to the construction site next door.
Thanks to all for the multitude of ideas I've already collected after a few weeks of browsing the site.
Hello Everyone. We bought our cabinets and then I found this site! Wish it had been the other way around. We're trying to nail down an electrician and then we'll start the demolish/rebuild.
We live in Western Massachusetts so have to drive a little to get to the CT store. We've chosen Adel Birch and are still undecided about countertop.
Can someone direct me to the thread about corner base cabinet solutions. I read about someone using a 36 inch base with an 18 inch door (we don't have enough room for a blind corner) and I'd like to get the details of how it worked (out?).
She's done an excellent job of summarizing the project, and has offered much advice to many who are interested in doing the same.
Hope that helps!
Susan

Feeling very sheepish about skipping the "introduce yourself" thread and going straight to the "help me!" section. Next time I promise to look around before I jump in!
My name is Amy and I live in Maryland with my husband, two daughters and two dogs. We moved into our home just under a year ago. It's turned into a bit of a money pit but perhaps that's what I get for letting DH buy the house without me (too pregnant to fly out for the house hunting).
We had grand plans for the kitchen, which led to some grand quotes ($172K?!?!?), which led to some more research, which led me here! So glad -- everyone here is so helpful. I spent several hours at Ikea last week and I'm going back for more this weekend (more cabinet perusing and more frozen yogurt, in that order. And I will find the "as is" room!).
We have DIY genes and aspirations, but never enough time, so I am looking for a contractor. Toying with the idea of being my own mini-GC -- hiring out the electric, plumbing, wall-opening and door-closing, cabinet hanging, and counters, whiledoing demo, cabinet assembly, backsplash tile & painting ourselves. Yikes?
And I'm leaning toward Stat white but drooling over house-hunter Jenn's adel med brown, so who knows?
this is belle logging in from kuala lumpur, malaysia. i've been reading the posts hereabout ikea kitchens since yesterday. my hubby and i want to extend our kitchen cabs to add a built-in oven and maybe a larder. we have a very small space available for the extension and that's why we need a lot of advise on how to go about it.
good to learn that a lot of people actually havepositive feedback on their ikea kitchens. though my hubby and i are big fans of ikea --- we liveless than 5mins awayfrom the store --- we're not big fans of their wardrobes and beds. so for our original kitchen, we didn't use ikea. the posts here have really changed our minds.
ok, that's it. hope that's enough of an intro. haven't really posted anything as a member of a forum, always the silent type
Just wanted to say hi to everyone that has joined recently. Man......we are becoming gi-normous!!!!
Amy -- $172,00 for the kitchen? My whole house was less than $20,000 more! I'm sure you'll find places to use that unused money when you install your IKEA kitchen!
