Hi, I've been lurking for a couple of weeks at this great forum and figured it was time to join in. I'm a longtime Ikea customer and a big believer that quality can exist at lower price points. My mother did over her kitchen with Ikea cabinets over ten years ago and they still look brand new.
I'm now faced with a lot of decision making regarding my own kitchen. A leaky refridgerator had to be replaced, and we couldn't find one which both fit our family's needs and the preexisting too smallspace built into the cabinetry. So now I have a fridge out on an open wall, and a need to rethink my kitchen. I've had a lot of fun playing with the Planner and looking through the many informative posts here, especially the inspirational pictures. I'm sure I'll have many questions as we forge ahead, thank you in advance!
Sorry - didn't realize there was an intro page. I'm Jackie and I've been lurking for a few weeks. Don't remember how I happened onto this website, but I haven't been able to draw myself away from it since! We are probably a year away from a kitchen re-model - need to re-work the laundry/half bath/guest room (closet!) first. That hasn't stopped me, however, from delving into the great information found here. What a great group of giving, creative people!
We live in NY not too far from West Point. Ikea Paramus is about 45 minutes away. Elizabeth is maybe twice that far, but do-able. Frankly, any trip to Ikea has to be made on a REALLY good day as we both find it overwhelming!! Definitely not for the faint of heart, imho .
Thanks for all of the answers you've already provided to questions I didn't realize I had .
My IKEA is fairly close as well, but you're right, any trip is quite daunting! I don't even try to see all the things I'd like to. Thank goodness for all the kind folks here who answer questions. Theoretically the store's kitchen department will return calls, but I've had no luck there for well over a month now.
Liz, that is certainly interesting info to keep in mind for the future!
I'm wondering if anyone has paid for and downloaded the Secrets of Ikea Kitchens tutorial? I haven't seen it mentioned too much here. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places.
That is definitely food for thought. And being a virtual neophyte in all things Ikean, I certainly would not be the one to review that tutorial. When - and IF - I ever get through all of the info on this site, I will reconsider that whole idea.
My name is Jason. I posted on the Building a Home forum since it started, oh, nearly ten years ago until I got booted for good by Spike. I ventured every so often into the Kitchens' side of GW, but didn't too much browsing, as it wasn't my thing (I just installed them, not really anything else). I was a homebuilder/remodeler for 15 years. I recently visited the Schaumburg Ikea with another contractor and a couple architects, and we were all impressed by them; this link was given by one of the other posters on our building forum, so here I am.
