My husband and I have also posted without the courtesy of introducing ourselves, I apologize for the both of us (but he did it first!)
We are actually working on our second house remodel. He is an architect and I married him knowing that this was his thing. The first house was taken down to the studs but this is more an appearance re-do because we now have 2 small children, Maggie 4 1/2 and Jake almost 2.
Well, the kitchen needed more then just a coat of paint but it was a nice big room and having to renovate was actually a plus for us. We just are not into the look that most new or pre-renovated houses have in their kitchens. I'm fussy I know but so is he. I blame it on being in the culinary field, I need room and function and place that makes me happy because I'm in it so much.
Ikea Atlanta opened just a month after we moved in and after getting the standard $15K-$20K+ estimates from HD and the big L we got smart and went there. It's been around 15 months and we're just now getting the cabinets up. So soon, very soon (please!) we'll be up and running with our beautiful and very unique kitchen.
Jennoconn,
You said: "Ikea Atlanta opened just a month after we moved in..."
Can you give me a rough idea of the IKEA Atlanta layout? DH is visiting for me next weekend and he would really appreciate it. He needs to know where the kitchen displays are, the restaurant and the AS Is room. Thank You!
What a great site! A dream come true - already I've found lots of help and inspiration. Thank you. It's simply wonderful to see all these homes and kitchens in progress. And the tips! - A gold mine!
I'd like to post my plans, but as a Mac user, although I have rough sketches on my computer, I did the IKEA software plans on my friend computer.
I think I read in another thread (I can't find it now!) that I should join the official IKEA site (from my friends computer?) in order to share the file with you for advice?
I'd be grateful to know for sure. I think I could visit and post from my friend place, maybe even tomorrow, if that's what I need to do. I sure would appreciate airing the plan with you all.
Any tips or suggestions you could give me for getting started would be appreciated. I have so many questions I want to ask you all!
Best regards,
elan
PS: By way of introduction - I live on the east coast of Canada, and have visited the IKEA store in Montreal twice this summer as I've been planing this reno. (we had an IKEA store here many years ago. I don't know why it was closed, I heard it had been profitable, it certainly was popular - I sure do miss it!)
My contractor has told me he'll know this week when he can schedule my project. It could (i'm hoping!) happen really soon! Yikes! (I'm so excited!)
Geesh! I could swear I'd posted a welcome here the other day to all the new members, but I guess I was remiss. My apologies.
Welcome! We're glad you're all here, and we hope to be helpful!
Serena (Sara and Matt) -- How exciting -- less than a month! As to your questions...check out Neilometer's post from just tonight on stacking 2 12" base cabinets. I think it can be done, but maybe you and he can discuss the details.
inforapenny -- Isn't the planning fun? So many decisions, and it's amazing how deep you can get into it without realizing. Ask me how I know!
Jason_MI -- Sure you can look around! Glad you found us!
jennoconn -- No worries. Not everyone introduces themselves, but it is nice to get to know you a bit. Before long, you'll find you know all of us pretty well also.
woodswell -- I think I said hi before, but if not then HI!!
elan -- You're in good company here...there are quite a number of Canadians who hang out. Maybe one of them knows why Montreal closed?
As for your planner issues...when you visit your friend, save your planner file to IKEA (there's an option in the File/Save menu). You'll need an email address (best to use a throwaway one, since you'll need to tell us your email and the password in order for us to see it) and a password. Then, you can post a thread here with all the details of your plans, mission statement, etc. and provide the email and password so that we can look up your plans. It's really easy, and there are a number of people here who are really good at kitchen planning. Unfortunately for me, I am not one of them. :?

Time to introduce myself. My name is Cyndi, I live in France with my husband and daughter. We've bought a house from the 1970's that we are in the process of remodeling. Our kitchen is going to be a Stat white galley kitchen in an attempt to erase the horror that was the previous kitchen . Getting a work crew here was like pulling teeth and more than 8 months after the closing we are anxious to get it all done and over with before winter.
I think this site is great and you all seem like a great group of people. Thanks, Susan, for creating this.
Greetings, Everyone. This is Laurel and Erik. We've been fans of IKEA ever since experiencing it through a friend in Frankfurt, Germany. We've just started digging into our local store in Stoughton, MA and found this wonderful IKEAFANS site yesterday. We look forward to exchanging useful tips here as we prepare to remodel our kitching & dining room.
