vandalous -- Hi and welcome (a little late :?). Glad to see that you found an answer to your question. I hope you'll continue to visit us...we love to have creative minds around here!

LHURDIS -- Welcome -- have you found any more info about PEG? Have you decided what you're going to do? We'd love a follow-up!

harikuyo - How's it going? Are your dogs settled down and used to the routine yet? Hope you're holding together -- renovation is always stressful.

Hi JMOG! Great to have you here! We look forward to hearing your ideas and sharing some of ours. This is a great group here.

Susan

After speaking to my local IKEA we decided not to go with PEG as they told me with the Kitchen Event that the installer was overloaded. We now have a new installer and his crew has taken down our old kitchen. So far we have spent 2 months planning this remodel, spent many hours at the store and with the kitchen staff. I must say they were very helpful with the planner and were extremely patient with my changes. They drywaller comes in tommorrow and on Friday the new cabinets will be put in .. hopefully without major problems. I had no idea howstressfull this whole thing would be...but when it is completed hopefully it will all be worth the trouble.

On removing the old cabinets we saw a little of the history of our house...it is over 30 years old. The floors seem to have been replaced twice, both times with awful tilesand the three types of wallpaper. One is straight out the the 70's....yellow, orange, and white and looks like it should be on That 70's Show. I am looking foward to mymodern new Liljestad kitchen.

Hi, everyone, figured I'd introduce myself here also...

I'm just beginning a kitchen renovation project, and it's very exciting to be looking at IKEA. Back in about 1997 or so IKEA only offered metric sizes in this area. I had a small and terrible kitchen that I upgraded. I went with another manufacturer because it was just too complicated to use metric and find an installer willing to work with IKEA cabinets. Single parent, full-time working, etc. - just no time or skill to do it myself...

Flash forward about a decade and IKEA has more choices, USA sizes (though I wish we were metric like the rest of the world), a different and happier home (marriage after age 50 is a very special adventure) and I'm enjoying playing kitchen almost as much as I enjoyed planning my wedding!

OK, what thoughts can I elicit on Adel birch vs Nexus birch?

Thank you, everyone - I look forward to lots of good discussions and learning over the coming months!

Hi Singajane:

Both are contemporary with crisp andclean linesbut personally I think Adel Birch is more interestingthan the plainer Nexus.

The cabinets we installed, Liljestad are a gorgeous dark brown and I am very happy with then. However the style is more traditional than I initially wanted but with the added chrome look handles - Berom they have taken on a modern look. This is my first IKEA kitchen and we are pleasantly suprised with the cabinet quality. Still not finished yet...waiting for the countertop.

Good luck with your choice.

Lynda

Hi Susan and everyone else! I am a new member in Phoenix, Arizona. I didn't know IKEA existed until they opened the Tempe store a couple years ago, but of course my 17 year old daughter knew 2 years before it opened that it was coming! How do they know these things? The new store was so mobbed with customers that I didn't dare go until almost 6 months after it opened (much to the daughter's chagrin). The lines were so long that the police had to direct traffic off of the interstate. Amazing, and what an amazing store.

I work at home and put IKEA file cabinets and cupboard in the office, absolutely love them. My husband & I are drawing up the plans for our kitchen remodel, and we will do the lion's share of the work ourselves. It's finally cool enough in Phoenix to knock out some walls.

Then I stumbled across this IDEAfan website! This is going to be wonderful. I joined on Monday, and have probably logged 6-8 hours cruising the site in the last three days. If this keeps up I will probably be fired because I am not getting work done. I hope the honeymoon doesn't wear off, though, I'm having so much fun. Can this be addictive? I hope not, I already have trouble controlling just the coffee & chocolate in my life.

I love the medium brown Adel doors -the Tempe store has an awesome display that I fell in love with. I also really like Hallarum eucalyptus, but haven't seen it ina display. Any one have it and love it? Pricing may make a difference. They seem to be the only choices in medium brown?

Well, anyway, thank you for this website, and I look forward to starting our project with your help!

Jan

singajane - Welcome! It will be neat seeing how much is different from your first install almost a decade ago -- we look forward to following your progress!

foncjas - Addictive? No.... We're not addicted. We have an illness.

Jan - Don't worry, the intensity of the addiction wears off once you absorb a lot of info.

Hello Jane. I think marriage after 50 makes a lot of sense. I turn 50 this month, and am a lot closer to being a grownup than when I got married and thought I already was.
