Smile Seattle area newbie

Hi all. Boy, I'm so glad to have found this website! I've been trying to decide whether to remodel my master bath or kitchen first, and after reading all I have on IKEA cabinets I've decided to go with the kitchen. I just got back from spending 4 hours at the Seattle store, and am anxious to find a contractor in this area to install the cabinets for me (I've decided on the Adel MB). Rachel Brown at the Seattle IKEA sent me a list of 5 contractors they recommend, but I'm hoping to hear from others out there in my area who have hired the work done. Are you happy with the contractor, or do you have regrets? Any help you can give me would be much appreciated!
Also, it seems there must be some stain that is available to cover up the edge of some of the cabinets. Does anyone have suggestions? I plan to set my dining room up as an assembly space when I put the cabinets together, and thought I could take care of that problem of the beech showing through during the assembly process.
Thanks in advance for all your input. . .

hello

hello all,

I'm glad I found this website. My wife and I are planning to do a two tone kitchen remodel in Abstrakt (and Hallurum, no wait, Nexus, no wait...!) so we're interested to see the new styles (mainly dark slab fronts). We discovered IKEA kitchens after almost moving forward on a $16K bid for custom cabinets.

With Nexus delayed, we're in wait-and-see mode for now. Any tips, tricks or hints would be welcome.

John

Hi jpaul! Welcome to IKEAFANS!

Lots of discussion on the Nexus Brown Black- we have lots of members tracking their conversations with IKEA, as well as some insider info which we post when we can. In the meantime, there's lots to do with design, so my advice would be to settle in with the IKEA planner, find some great design tips and see where the doors are when you're ready to pull the trigger.

I'm one of those people who is using IKEA cabinet boxes for their great value and outstanding hardware- and making custom door/drawer fronts.

Combo: Ikea boxes + custom doors in Colorado

Hi all-

Been a member for a few months while we have trudged our way thru the Hallarum conundrum. (Sigh...) We've finally figured out what we're doing...I think.

We're moving to custom doors w/Ikea boxes. Once we learned Hallarum wasn't available, we were presented w/the Lexus Black/Brown option and a big warning by the nice IKEA man. Since we were pretty hooked on the Hal tone (as was our color scheme), we are now going with plain-front faces using a similarly stain on cherry.

I mean, it's only been 10 months since the appliance store has stored all our stuff. But thankfully things are starting to move again!

We're also using Akurum (white) in our laundry room, which we need to finish in order to work on the kitchen (since the laundry rm be our temp kitchen for awhile; in-laws want to paint that this week--God bless 'em). After that, next steps include:

-finishing the kitchen demo (started last year)
-laying down radiant floor heating
-tiling
-painting
-building new boxes + adding Caesarstone countertops
-(yay!) adding our new appliances + super-suck range hood
-Ann Sacks tile for a visual feature behind the cooktop
-custom banquette seating at end of the bar

Whew...that should take us thru 2015 at least.

Seriously...I'm very excited to be part of this group-it's a great place for ideas from people in-the-know!

Hi, amorcitos, and welcome! It's a pity what happened to Hallarum. It was a beautiful door. It sounds like your new solution will be goregous too! Can't wait to see pictures, even if they're in progress - we love pictures!

Post Hello

Hi there, I'm new to forums in general and definitely to remodeling. My husband and I are pleased to meet all of you and hope we can contribute at some point. I'm 60% sure I want to go with an Ikea kitchen but we're way too busy (& klutzy) to do the install ourselves, so I'm hung up on WHO i will find to do the install.... This website is amazing...but overwhelming too. Can anyone direct me to a few threads that talk give general 'lessons learned' that could be useful to newbies like me?
