So after several years of on again off again plans to remodel the kitchen, my husband has given the "official" green light to start the project. We will be gutting most of the first floor, doing new flooring. Running hardwood up the stairs, removing the old black slate flooring from the ground level around back by the laundry room and basement and garage doors. New entry doors in the front and kitchen.
To say that I'm excited would be an understatement. Mostly at this point I am frightened.
Today I cranked out Demicent's Kitchen Versions 193-197 on the ol' Planner. I had no idea so many combinations were possible!
I already have a million questions, so I'll be seeing you fine folks over in the rest of the Forum.
Wish us luck as we prepare burnt offerings one last time in our original kitchen, in honor of the Kitchen Gods, on our brown range with three functional burners and a busted Microwave which now houses Bread and Tupperware.
Help us bid farewell to the orange Christmas Tree lights in the soffits, the fine elephant skin textured Formica, the Cedar Shake TIki Bar motif, and the delightful orange vinyl sheet flooring.
I say thank you to your kitchen for serving you for many years... RIP
Is that RIP for "Rest in Peace" or RIP as in "RIP her out!"?
Demicent,

Let us bow our heads in farewell - then cheer as it is all torn out in preparation for you new dream kitchen.
Woo hoo! Rest assured, you are not the longest running show around - you are leaving me cleanly behind in your wake! Congrats on getting the green - can't wait to follow the progress. I trust we'll be seeing some of your fine plans and you'll start a blog? In a week or so we'll have full-fledged blogs, so hold out for that!
Susan

Eva is right, orange is coming back- and at my house you can see both ends of the trend- the first time in 1971 and again circa 2005. Reminds me that I have to take pictures of the basement kitchen before it's orange countertops are gone with the bin. You have been spared the glue down carpet over cement in a pattern called "Taco Bell."
Yes, orange is coming back, and Tiki, and all the black slate we are ripping out would be drooled over by someone these days too. Maybe I should just hang on to all my lovlies and set up a kitchen museum down in the basement.
I am a fan of orange in most of its incarnations (sorry Susan!) The floor I have now is more the orange color of a new saddle. Under all that dirt. I think.
My husband is being cooperative about the planning stages. He has even suggested that we hold nightly....um...."job meetings." He's one frisky contractor.
We built this house with our own hands 30 years ago, but now we have more money than energy so we'll be having some help on this one.
Oh you betcha I'm taking pictures. A blog sounds like fun too.
