Hello, I'm new to this forum, but not to Ikea. I currently have an Ikea kitchen which has held up very well in the last eight years (the Varde). With two kids swinging on the cabinets a couple of them got broken and my husband glued them back together, but they were never really the same after that (they didn't close properly). Anyway, I've been to the expensive kitchen places and also the run of the mill and I'm right back at Ikea...good quality for a low price. I could actually afford an expensive kitchen, but I just don't think I'd ever feel comfortable in it knowing how much it cost. I'd rather spend more on my dream Italian stove, hood, and apron sink. I also like the fact that I can change the doors some years from now and not spend a bundle. I'd like to have that "built in" look this time around so we are going with the Factum (I think it has a different name in the States). Well, that's all for now. I do have a zillion questions which I will post in (hopefully) the right forums. Stevie
Hi Stevie, welcome!
I think I've met my soulmate I totally agree about feeling guilty (in my case lame) buying an expensive cabinetry just because i can, i don't think i'll ever do it, but high end appliances? i'm all over it and can't wait to have another kitchen to do it in!
In the states Faktum is called Akurum and we're finding more differences as time goes on, like in the states our wall cabinets hang from a suspension rail that you don't get.
Anyway, don't worry about posting to the wrong forum, we have a team of moderators who will move things if necessary so that your questions get the appropriate attention.
Post kitchen plans when you have them and we love pictures have you chosen a door style yet?
Yes, FAKTUM is called AKURUM in the North American market, and they are generally the same thing with a few minor dimensional changes. Just recently though, we found out that the FAKTUM in Australia and I think in the UK don't use the suspension rail? Do you know if they use the suspension rail in Germany or if they screw the cabinets directly to the wall? In any case I'm looking forward to getting some idea of what the differences actually are . And given the large percentage of IKEA's market that's in Germany, you're probably going to get an earlier look at things that we haven't seen over here yet, like the forthcoming appliances, the diswasher drawers in particular have folks curious because of the pricepoint on them from other sources. So don't be surprised if people ask you to take a camera to the store with you...

oh yeah, wanted to add that one plus you'll have with Faktum vs Varde is that if a kid mangles a door you just pop it off and replace it. And the same goes if you ever get bored with the door you choose. Oh how I love IKEA
Thanks for the welcome. I was told that Varde was being discontinued here...it's been around for a while now. I would be happy to take any pictures. I was in a home today that had the exact kitchen I was looking at and because of the dishwasher cabs I didn't even know it was there. I thought it looked very nice (the Lidingo-same one I'm going with). The owners were very happy (and super proud) to let me poke around in their kitchen. Regarding the wall suspensions...I don't know if they have them here--have to ask, but if they don't I'm going to have my sister pop over to the Ikea in the states, pre-cut them, and ship them to me.
