newbie in seattle

Hi everyone,
I'm very excited to start installing my Adel Medium Brown cabinets in our kitchen. I just found this site a few days ago and I've been reading and researching my options. I'm an engineer by trade and I'm hooked on DIY projects.

I purchased my cabinets already and they're in my garage unassembled. I'm going to install wall cabinets this weekend. I'm still searching for some answers, notably
1) can I put the wall cabinet flush to a side wall with the hinge side right next to the wall, and still maintain proper door operation? or do I need a small spacer?
2) what's going on with edge banding? I guess I'll see the light when I start getting into it, but I'm drawing a blank on if this affects me.

Thanks for the great resources

Technically, yes, because the doors themselves don't require clearance to open 90 degrees. However, if you have a pull or knob you may need some filler to accomodate it.

Cabinet boxes come in white or birch. To cover the sides of the cabinets there are cover panels, but any gap where the doors don't quite meet in the middle or a bit of the edge is exposed will show the cabinet box color. Some people don't like that, and have replaced or colored the edgebanding to match the medium brown instead. The door hinges are quite adjustable and you may be able to get a good fit where there is no exposure of the box, but just in case you don't, there are other remedies.

hi CB and welcome to the forums!

To answer your questions (i love Adel MB, btw , I used it in my master bath):

you can put a cabinet flush to a wall, but you have to keep in mind the knob/pull needs room, so if it's a full wall you might run into trouble (in my kitchen i have a wall that extends 12 in past my cabinet, but the door is 18in wide so there is clearance for my knob

Edge banding--well, everyone has a different opinion, it comes down to personal taste. there was a really good thread about it the other day, i'll try to find it and link it in here. it had several other pertinent threads referenced in it as well. Me? I'm too lazy for edge banding and it really doesn't bother me to see just a bit of birch peeking out from my MB or even the Nexus BB i have in my media area.

Again, welcome to the fray
and happy tko !
