Before we purchased anything I did a lot of research on the Ikea items we were interested in. Most of that reading was done on this website. Your contributors both scared the crap out of me and eased my worries.
For the last, almost 4 years, I've been living with my boyfriend who has a waterbed. At first it was fun, then my body started to ache and I wasn't able to get more than 6 hours of sleep a night. I can't blame all of my woes on the bed, stress and other factors played a role....but I still liked to say it was mostly the bed.
So, finally after years of trying to convince him a REAL mattress was going to be better for us he is finally seeing things in a different light! And I have Ikea to thank! One of his biggest concerns was the expense of a bed frame. Everything in other furniture stores started out around $700 for a beefy king size frame. But while visiting Ikea one day on the prowl for a bench I pointed out some frames that were only $250. We fiddled with them, testing to see if they seemed sturdy enough for us (we're not small people) and he said, "I could live with that." Hurray!
Yesterday I ordered our mattress set (not from Ikea, sorry!), it will be delivered on Valentine's Day. Then we picked up our Hemnes king bed frame and two Hemnes 2-drawer chests. We thought we were clever and brought straps just in case the boxes were too long for my car, but one of the workers helping us get them in the trunk just had us move the passenger seat up and in they went! Unfortunately my boyfriend was folded up in that seat the entire 30 minute drive home. He was a very good sport about it though and said it really wasn't that bad. I've attached of photo for my own amusement. Haha.
Sunday or Monday we will be tearing down the waterbed and setting up our Hemnes in anticipation for the mattress delivery. I'm so excited, I can't wait to have a real bed and a good looking frame/night stands to bring it all together. We're still debating the dressers, there isn't much in the way of open wall space, but we'll figure that out once the bed is in.
