Hello, eh! <<waves>>(had to throw in that bit of Canuck humour)
I earn a living as a 'desk jockey', (not a typo) mostly from homebutlearned reno/demo skills at my father's side growing up. I am closer to 50 than 40, not yet sure how I feel about that:? My daughter is 22, and is out on her own, so it's just the two of us.Well, sort of: we also have a St. Bernard, currently living indoors due to recent knee surgery. My partner works construction, and hasconsiderable cabinet-making/woodworking skills. Like Tigger, she is also an avid tool collector: "...It's not a garage, it's a workshop..."
We bought a TLC-needed home in the'burbs5 years ago and havebeen steadily working our way through, updating it. We do pretty mucheverything ourselves. When not hammering and sawing, we are likely to be found cycling, kayaking, or playing hockey.
Like Kathy, I have 'project ADD', with a twist: I actually start said project, then develop fear of failure over the creative issues, and take ages to finish.Afamily joke is the table and chairs I started on in '98 and finally finished this past fall! For those who have read my post in the decorating forum, you'll get a kick out of this: the table & chairs have color co-ordination to the now ruled-out 'leaves' kitchen counter. My partner nearly cried when she realized the implications...
Retirement is less than 10 years away, and that's when the real fun starts: we own 5 acres of land in a rural setting, and our dream is to build our own house there, start to finish. In the meantime, we hone our skills...
My name is Michelle or Boopadaboo here and at GW or whereever I might be!
Boopadaboo is my oldest cat, I have three others too!
DH and I bought a house 2 years ago. It was an 1855 farmhouse that had been updated in the 50's and the 90's but not really finished. The outside was/is a jungle and none of the rooms had ever been painted with anything but primer since the remodeling.
The kitchen needs lots of work!
It is a long wide galley with lilac floors, cabinets and counters - YUCK!
We met with a Kitchen designer that gave us a price of $100k to redo it. Then we gave up for a year and now we are both excited about the idea of IKEA cabinets.
I am totally clueless about how to design this and what to do even though I have been lurking on GW kitchens for years.
I will need lots of help and hope I don't drive anyone nuts.
I have discovered that I love decorating and this is the first house I have ever "done" and I am trying to take it room by room (pics in the link below)....
So far we have finished the foyer, DR, Study, and den/bath.
Hopefully that link will work and the pictures will show up! I have enjoyed reading all of your posts and I am looking forward to getting started designing my IKEA kitchen...
I'm Jen, 34, and I live with my dh and two young sons (ages 6 & 4) in Dallas. I'm a former technical writer, now I stay home with my kids. I'll probably go back to technical writing at some point once the boys are both in school all day.
We live in a 60s ranch which was desperate for a kitchen redo. Last year we realized we'd soon need to replace the original double oven that was starting to give out. One thing led to another and we ended up gutting the whole space and starting over :-) We love to DIY and have been having a lot of fun with our IKEA remodel.
Geocaching is our main family hobby right now. My personal hobbies are reading, quilting, and playing the piano.
Hi, I'm Stacy and am hopelessly kitchen obsessed. I'm 29 for a little bit longer
We live in Bellevue, WA and I'm a software engineer for an aerospace company. DH (Craig) owns his own business fixing peoples computers at their home or business - so his car is his office. We are newlyweds (a bit over 9 months) and have started the remodel of our 1966 kitchen while doing our guest bathroom. We have 2 labs and 2 blue and gold macaws. We love the ocean, DIY projects, and traveling although our travel plans for this year are put on hold to complete the remodel.

Just turned 30, no kids living in beautiful southern california, a mile from the beach with loving hubby. Like Stacy, I too am a software engineer for an aerospace company (i didn't know there were this many nerds around )
We just bought our first house last august, a 1955 track, and have stripped it bare. It was basically down to studs and dad, hubby and I haveredone the plumbing, electricity, windows... i love my power tools! It's also exactly 999 sqft... which makes me wonder how much harder it would've been to add1 more measly foot? why didn't someone tell me how much easier it was to take it apart than it was to put it back together! Anyhow, we didn't have a choice as the former owners let their animals use the house as a latrine and even the floorboards were soaked and rotted. eewwweeee. ok too much information
I'm also design obsessed but lack any talent for making decisions. I like everything but mostly 1950's modern or any kind of contemporary asian-y look. Obviously, I am also design confused
