Just wanted to drop and and say hi. This forum/website is a recent discovery I've made and I'm really looking fwd to getting ideas and reading up on everyone's projects. I'm in a 1975 apartment/condo (strata unit), and it desperately needs updating. Flooring, kitchen, bathrooms, and home office are all on the list of DIY "to-dos" over the next couple of years.. I'm also wanting to install an "all-in-one" washer dryer in my kitchen..
I'm so conflicted between something slick and contemporary or something classic so it is great to see all of these different project pictures and ideas.
We also don't have an Ikea locally so it is a bit more effort to go with them for me, but I'm *really* keen on it.
I'm in the same boat you are: making the decision between contemporary or traditional. So many people know exactly what they want, but I still haven't made up my mind. I like so many styles. I, too, am a long distance away from IKEA (5 hrs). But, it's definitely worth the trip if you've never been to one.
I know you'll get alot of ideas from all the talented people here!!
Doorstyle: Nexus BB...and nothing has gone wrong with that plan...
Re: Hello from Vancouver Island
Hi from the mainland. My niece and her husband are buying an Ikea kitchen for a house they have in Victoria, and the delivery from Vancouver is only going to be approx $200, which isn't so bad when you consider the ferry two ways with a vehicle. Price would very depending on total weight of boxes, and your exact location. Obviously Victoria and Naniamo are going to be cheaper than farther off the beaten path.
This site should be very helpful in teaching you what you really need to look out for in terms of ordering to make sure you have everything ordered correctly so you have it all right whether you are picking it up, or getting it delivered.
The Ikea planning software is very useful as you can do up you plan (get useful advice from the many helpful people on this site...and then upload it to the Ikea website to download at whichever store you choose to buy from.
Welcome! My best advice is to look through the galleries and find something that speaks to you to decide between the two sides of the cabinets.
And I love Vancouver Island - Victoria especially!

Hey Lucrezia.. that's excellent news.. I'm in the Victoria area myself.$200 is very reasonable. I was just over that the Coquitlam store on the long weekend... (ack where is the drooling icon when you need one!)... it was great. I have tried their kitchen planner, but have since been seduced by Google SketchUp and am using that for my project.
The other thing I am probably going to buy from ikea are my floors - I'm thinking of the Kvist carbonized bamboo.

StaceyLu, Thanks for the link... I'm soooo impressed by the creativity that folks have for modifying their kitchens.. wow.
Yep its a nice spot, but I think that can be said for the whole Cascadia/Georgia Strait region - especially now that it looks as if summer weather is finally beginning!
