I left the corporate world and am working from home!

After 10 years in the corporate world, I decided to start a company with my wife. I am now working at home on a tray table. We're planning to redo our home office using Ikea's Mikael series for the wrap-around desk, Effektiv for storage, and some venerable Iglo bookcases (4 of which once formed an enclosed canopy bed!), and maybe even have a futon and media center for "after hours."

I've been blogged!
Re: I left the corporate world and am working from home!

Welcome! Glad you're here. And congrats on leaving the rat race.

I'm a native NYer, too...where exactly is Airmont? It's not a town I'm familiar with, but it sounds like Westchester to me LOL

We'd love to see pix of your home office as it begins to take shape. We'd love to see pix of anything, actually...we're kind of suckers for pix!

Welcome to IKEAFANS!!

That was a huge decision to leave corporate America . Congrats! Hope all your plans go well. We're happy to have you here and help you in whatever we can to make it easier.

Please stick around, and as Eva said, please don't hesitate to share pics of your office.

Re: I left the corporate world and am working from home!

Hi!

Another Paramus ! I have a bit of a special spot for that area as I was born in Saddle River NJ (beautiful area) and lived there till I think junior year in HS when we moved to Atlanta . I spent *quite* a bit of time at the Paramus Mall... I'd love to get up there again some time and see what all has changed.

As someone that would very much like to do the same thing I'd also like to congratulate you for your escape from cubeville and look forward to seeing how you transform your space.

::looks around cluttered home office speculatively::

Hmmm...

James

Re: I left the corporate world and am working from home!

Hello!

I love our Mikael series wrap-around desks and the 41" straight ones too!

Our office has been referred to as "Command Central" . With a college student, a high schooler, a professional and me, an internet freak, we packed a lot into our office area (4 computers stations). Without the Mikael series we would have been hard pressed for organization. Don't forget the shelving unit for the top of the desk, this piece is a real workhorse and holds more than you can imagine and everything is at arms reach. Great for reference material and current project storage.

Good luck on your re-do and I wish you the best on your decision to work from home. Just remember to quit at the end of the day. Speaking from experience, it's way to easy to become a workaholic .

Re: I left the corporate world and am working from home!

Well, I would love to see a picture of the canopy bed made out of bookcases! I would spend months in there just reading.

Skiddie welcome and congratulations! I also grew up near Paramus , and I found the store to be much easier to navigate than Elizabeth . I do have a soft spot for Elizabeth, seeing as it was the first IKEA in that area! Please do show us pics as things progress!
