I'm planning to use the
OTR
Microwave in my kitchen design. Despite it's drawbacks, I have serious space constraits so it's the best fit.
I have 8' ceiling so I'm using the 39 inch cabinets. Since it's a modern kitchen, I want the microwave to line up with the bottom of the wall cabinets. The height of the microwave is approx 16" and the cabinet on top will be 24. With the light/decor strip, it looks like the cabs will line up with the microwave- right?
And...this puts the microwave about 20" above the cooktop. Is this going to be OK? Too much/Too little?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Lynn
P.S. Does anyone have a review on the OTR Microwave/hood (Snabb) that Ikea sells?

Your math seems about right, but someone else might want to confirm.
It seems to me that 20" is fine for the comfort/use factor, but you should check your microwave installation instructions (a lesson I learned the hard way on some of my appliances...!).
I personally would recommend more clearance. I have about 18" betw. my cooktop and
OTR
micro, and it's very inconvenient. You can't put big pots on the back burners; you can't pour something from one pot into another. I'm limited to using the front 2 burners for stockpots, etc.
If you can put 24" space you'll be more comfortable.

One other thing about not enough space - our
OTR
micro has a stainless steel handle. When I've got a big pot of something boiling on the front burner, the heat heats up the handle and it gets really really hot! Some extra space might save my fingers!

Greetings all: I wonder if anyone can tell me how the Framtid
otr
microwave is installed. I have one sitting in the garage but I don't want to tear it open to get the installation booklet (I want to keep return an easy option). I am currently modifying my over the microwave cabinet from a 15" standard one to a 9" open shelf installed at ceiling height. This leaves plenty of clearance from the stovetop to the microwave. I realized the importance of the needed space from this wonderful website. My previous microwave (GE spacesaver) had a plate affixed to the wall and the mw mounted onto that. I think this may be the best option but not too sure. I am also trying to find out if there are any 9"x15" drawerfronts I could fashion into two little doors. Any and all ideas appreciated...
