Induction cooking would be great but I have only a 30 amp circuit available and for induction cooking you need at least 50 amp. Even the higher powered electric cook tops from Kenmore with the chunky knobs need at least 40 amp. Just replaced that wiring and do not really want to do it again......
I was hoping that the Summit 24" model # SINC424220 iduction cooktop would fit over the 24' NUTID oven in a 24" IKEA oven cabinet. Has anyone considered this rather elegant combination? It appears that 3" of the cooktop would protrude below the surface of the counter, including the 1" legs of the cooktop.
I'll be really interested to hear if you find out about this. I was looking into a similar setup for a neighbor with a teeny kitchen, and I couldn't find out anything about the darned thing.
I even called Summit and the sales rep they sent me to had never heard of putting a cooktop over an oven. He said no, but it wasn't a knowledgeable no, just a gut reaction (more 'what kind of fool would want to do that?'). (My neighbor eventually decided on the Fagor 27" radiant cooktop instead, because it was so impossible to get any solid info out of the Summit people.)
The IKEA-responsible Whirlpool rep swung through our store a few weeks ago to talk about new products; I guess the problem with putting our induction cooktop over an oven is that the electronics poke down too far, and would interfere with the oven-space. That's just word of mouth, since we don't actually have them in yet.
Regular cooktops over ovens is still fine; we have them displayed in the showroom like this. Putting a 3rd party induction cooktop over an oven should be fine too as long as the clearance is there for the electronics (IKEA ovens dip a bit in the back). Heat shouldn't be an issue since built in wall ovens vent out front. If you check the installation manuals for each appliance they usually give the sizing specs for clearance.
