How easy is it to dent low end SS appliances?

We're planning to buy new appliances for our kitchen and we don't have a lot of money to spend. We would like SS and since we don't have a lot of money we are looking at refrigerators around $900 or less and stoves around $650 or less.

My question is how easy do they dent? We have a three and one year old . I'm so afraid that we are going to buy new appliances and they are going to be dented within months .

Since we don't have a lot of money to spend, do you think we would be better off going with white appliances or do you think the low end SS appliances will hold up to two young kids?

Thanks for your replies!!

Re: How easy is it to dent low end SS appliances?

Much of the lower end SS stuff is a faux finish, so they're about on par with painted finishes for resistance to dents/dings. Real stainless steel (in higher grades) is very tough, though much more expensive too.

That said, SS (and black) will show them a lot more apparently, while white "hides" the dings, especially if it's a textured white. Look at cars in a parking lot, and you'll know what I mean.

Re: How easy is it to dent low end SS appliances?

We've got SS appliances in the range you're thinking. We bought Frigidaire and got the fridge, range, micro, and dishwasher all for about $2000-$2500, so that's probably the same sort of stuff you're looking at. We've had ours since Feb of last year, so they're about 16 months old.

So far, so good. They do scratch if you happen to use a scrubby sponge by accident on them (oops!), but we haven't had one dent yet. No kiddos around our house, but we are NOT gentle people with our appliances, so maybe you can count my husband as a kid

We really wanted the look and feel of stainless but just couldn't afford the really high end stuff. Here's what we ended up with :

Micro:
Frigidaire Products - PLMV169DC

Range:
30-Inch Freestanding Gas Range (Color: Stainless Steel)

Dishwasher:
Frigidaire Products - FDB1250REC

Unfortunately, I can't seem to find my fridge at the moment, but it's also frigidaire

Smiles,
Kristen

Re: How easy is it to dent low end SS appliances?

That reminds me of when we were kids and we would prank call people and ask them if their refrigerator was running.
