I was set on my fridge choice, the Jenn-Air JFC2089HES Stainless Steel French Door model
until I saw the JFC2089HPY at a store this weekend. Same exact model and handles, but with a black glass front that hides the hinges as well. It looks beautiful!
Does anyone have actual experience with this type of finish? I love the look, and I think it would look great with my Linjar Blue cabinets (also a very reflective surface), but I am afraid it may look dirty unless absolutely clean. I think stainless steel may be more forgiving, but I am really just guessing.
That is a beautiful line of appliances...JennAir comes up with some really edgy stuff! Glass does show fingerprints, but so does stainless. Microfiber cloths are your friend...for stainless, the nubbier ones and for glass the smoother (3M makes nice ones) fabric. Hot water and a swipe is all you need.
When I was a kid my father used to use Glass Wax for our windows, I'm sure there's a modern equivalent to that which might mitigate fingerprints.
Hi there - We have this fridge in white and I love it. It's beautiful and puts a smile on my face everytime I go into the kitchen. I'm sure black shows more fingerprints than white but they haven't been a problem for us (the handles get more fingerprint marks than the glass).
You might want to give Jenn-Air a call. I just saw on HGTV that Kenmore carries a similar one and it repels fingerprints, so this one might also. Can't hurt to call them to end with a gorgeous fridge like this one.
I just saw the Kenmore Elite Trio version of this on the IBS2007, they said it was fingerprint resistant and even pressed their fingers on it to show how it didn't leave prints! Go to the store with some greasy sticky toddlers (or borrow a couple, I'm sure you can find a willing parent!) and give it a torture test.
I have this Fridge (Side by Side, Black, Counter Depth) and I love it. It does show stuff but easy to clean. That said the amount it shows depends on your light. Most of the time mine is in indirect light and it's great, for about 20 min at the end of the day it gets direct light from a door and it really really really shows everything.
All my appliances are Jenn Air floating glass, and I love them.
I am more and more leaning towards the black glass. The only downside I can think of is that the kitchen is already a bit dark, and the black will only make it darker.
I changed my SketchUp model and did a couple of renderings to get an idea of what it would look like, and I like what I see:
Stainless steel (although it will probably be a bit more reflective than that).
I also think the black is too dark. But since you have other white elements in the kichen, why not consider the white floating glass. It is beautiful! I love how clean it looks...
