I guess it's what's not in the photo that I'm curious about. What color are your walls? The floor? Appliances? Are there any other white elements in the room?
The sink will be a definite focal point if it's the only white thing in the room. I don't think it would look bad, just know that it will be THE THING attracting attention. The stainless would be a nice choice also, or even a black Sligranite if you want it to fade into the background.
So....do you want it to pop, or fade?

I was going to say the same thing as GardenOfDarwin. When I look at the second picture all I see is the sink. That might or might not be the desired effect. But if you do plan on other white elements in your kitchen, that might change things.
Here's another question regarding the DOMSJO... paired with the tall HJUVIK would it still be "country"? Or does not everyone think it reads automatically as "country"?
I may see it as country since it is in the Fagerland display at my IKEA which is rather traditional/country.
I often wonder if you just refuse to accept any country vibe from the DOMSJO, and rather just see it as a big working sink with handy industrial sprayer, does it work in a modern, working kitchen?
I'm in love with the VARDE worktop sink, no doubt, but there is still the question of how to make it work - and it also relegates me to some ridiculously small cabinets (I have to use 2 12" pullouts to make it work!) If I can get the DOMSJO out of the country, I can have some very nice "full size" and useful cabinets. I have no uppers so I really need to make sure the base cabinets work.
To me, the combination of apron front and white porcelain screams country. The only apron front sinks I've seen in pictures of actual kitchens that look modern are stainless steel (and insanely expensive). Is there any way you can build out/mock up a false front on the sink cabinet to hide the apron front (if that's even worth doing)? I have no carpentry skills and a poor sense of spatial relations, but it seems like there should be some way to build out the sides two inches, then slap on some full height doors, which would cover the front of the sink. Obviously, the sink cabinet would then stick out a couple inches further than the adjoining cabinets, but that seems to be a current trend in kitchens anyway. Maybe someone here who actually knows what they're doing as far as structurally sound cabinet modifications could come up with a scheme, if that's something that sounds at all appealing to you.
Do you need a mondo sink? There's also a small Domsjo...I think it can be undermounted, which is tres cool. But utterly incompatible with formica. Oops.
Revive your Varde sink modification thread and I'll throw Tigger into the muck. See what he comes up with, with hisengineering brain.

Actually, I really love my single EMSEN. It holds a ton of dishes and cleans up like a dream. I do like a big sink. The VARDE sink is not big in anyway, but that worktop. *sigh*
