I am planning a drawer for knives.
I am not sure I am that crazy about the rationell knife insert. I like most of the rationell stuff but not that for some reason.

Can I fit another companies knife insert into the drawer and does anyone know of one that works well

I've seen several other companies' very shallow knife holders. I have one from pine (from a discount store). Lots of sizes. They're -great- and the knives don't dull, and are easy to reach.

Type: "wood drawer knife" into your search engine... Google Images & Amazon both returned pages of suitable candidates.

We've got the Rationell knife thingies. Dumb design, awful waste of space and no allowance for different handle designs and blade types. But they work for us for the most important reason: they prevent my excellent tools from banging around which would destroy the carefully prepared edges. Plus they present only the handles so my supersharp knives can be grabbed safely.

I actually like the rationell. I use two so the blades and the handles are supported-works great.

I bought the 30" drawer insert. I was wondering if anybody has some experience with taking out the cutlery part? We have a knife block and don't need it, but it would be great for some other utensils. Will I totally destroy the cutlery tray by trying to rip it out?
