Hi folks! Great forum. I have a question. About to install an Akurum kitchen and have a problem. We are thinking about putting our cooktop next to our sink due to countertop constraints & keeping sink under a window. Is there a minimum distance we should keep between the cooktop edge and the sink edge? The bases for both would be 36". Is it a problem to put them next to each other? Thanks you for ANY suggestions.

I would try very hard to have some separation. That might require a different sink base or cooktop or sacrificing the window position, but I just can't imagine washing dishing with a hot surface next to me. Even if you're single, there could be parties or whatever when it's a problem. I'd also want a safe place to put down hot pots on both sides of the cooktop. I know it's not what you want to hear, but I hope it helps to know.

Thank you so much. It's not what i wanted to hear, but it's what I needed to hear. I think that leaves a cook top in island solution. Thanks again.

Generally you'll find people don't much like island or peninsula cooktop solutions here--harder and more expensive to vent, and potentially more hazardous (depends on size of island). So make sure you've resolved those issues. That said, our range is on the peninsula with built in downdraft and while the venting is not ideal, it's OK for what we do with it. Here in California, we grill most of the things that would make a lot of mess and smoke.

I do like having nothing at all above my head when cooking--I used to occasionally hit my head on the corner of the fan at our old place.
