We like the domsjo farmer style sink, the 24" with the single bowl. We also like the kalsebo cabinets which are being discountinued. Hence the need for a quick decision...it will also make countertop easier for me to self install since no cutout.
Will the farmer sink look ok on the kalsebo style?
It took me a few moments to remember that Kalsebo is beech. How could Ikea discontinue beech? Wanna bet it'll still be sold in other markets?
I'd hesitate to use your porcelain farmer-style sink with Abstrakt or Sorbo, but Domsjo has nice, clean lines. It should look fine with other doors.
The non-Ikea sink I've chosen is similar to Domsjo in that it sits on top of the cabinet, not on (or under) the counter. So my 4-foot-long sink saved $400 if counter is worth $50/sq ft installed.
By the way, I finally visited a friend's house this afternoon. When it was built, IKEA wasn't an option (too far away), but the birch veneer cabinetry is much like NEXUS birch. Also, no conspicuous lighting, simple handles and knobs, and quiet countertops. A great lesson in using unpretentious simplicity to create a pleasant (and child-friendly) home.
Countertop: white would fit nicely with that sink.
That is good to hear. My wife and I were trying to remember if we ever saw any farmer sink in a more contemporary cabinet style, but we may choose form over function.
To clarify on the countertop, we already have it in the garage, purchased on last chance some time back when we were planning on getting white cabinets. I believe the name was 'granite effect', and is a light gray granite formica finish.
Just need to know if we need to get diff countertops now that we decided on kalsebo.
Thanks for the opinion on the sink. Wonder if others agree, would like a consensus since we are running fast to plan everything.
i am installing my 2nd Kalsebo kitchen since Feb so I'm very confident saying that I think the clean lines of the Domsjo work with it. of course, it really depends if the Domsjo fits with your overall design, regardless of the door.
The Kalsebo is such a lovely, simple door that it takes on many different faces. I put it in a middle class "normal" home in Feb and now I'm putting it in a modest country home. and it fits. meanwhile, i could easily see it going very modern.
I think you're fine. and fwiw, we did a neutral granite w/it in Feb and right now we're matching it with a white Pragel (or Numerar, whatever). It's an extremely easy door as long as you're careful about your paint in the room (the Beech can sometimes read pink. we've used pale yellow in each of the 2 kitchens....)
