Hi all,

I am modifying my plan a bit and now reducing the size of my pantry to put another upper and lower in to hold phone and phone books etc. On the 18" upper I am planning on storing my cook books.

I am thinking of using the glass Adel white door but still undecided if I should go solid instead.

That being said, have you seen a glass door with a solid shelf instead of the glass ones? I am thinking a solid shelf would be better to hold all of my cook books and the weight of them vs the glass but wondering how it might look through the glass with the solid white shelf.

I am also wondering if would look too messy with the glass door?

Your thoughts and comments are extremely appreciated.

Why have a door at all? I'd use the cabinet without a door as a bookshelf, if you're planning on storing your books there.

And I don't think the Adel glass doors have any horizontal components, like Liljestad does, but if it does you would try to line your shelf up behind one of the horizontals.

Hi,

I thought about not having a door there but decided against it for a few reasons:

• The box will be white vs the creamy Adel white.
• I don't want to dust my cook books - I know that sounds silly but it drove me crazy at my old house.
• hoping it will look neater behind a door

And yes you are right - no horizontal mullions on the glass so you can see right through it ~ so that is why I am wondering if the solid shelf would look funny?

I have the avskit doors so the glass is frosted, but I don't think it looks weird with solid shelves at all. I also have a whole 30" glass shelf full of cookbooks and it's been fine.

I think the solid shelves will look nice Deb.

Solid shelves will be fine...it's better than having shelves that don't line up with the mullions, which is a pet peeve of mine LOL The white horizontal of the shelf will work just fine with the other geometry of the door.

I have learned a lot about how completely and totally kitchen obsessed and detail oriented (read: anal) I am about this project. I am actually happy it is taking longer than I thought so I can process and research and "come to terms" with every decision as silly as that sounds.

It is almost like I am commitment shy when it comes to making a firm decision about something. I have wanted a new kitchen since we moved into this house 9 years ago - I guess it just comes down to wanting it as close to 'perfect' as I can make it with little or no regrets.

Going to go with the solid shelves. Thats one more firm decision!!!

Thanks so much for giving your input - it truly is a blessing to have this sounding board of great people here to offer comments, opinions and ideas.

This project would be so overwhelming if i didn't have you - my virtual friends - who 'get it' and understand how such a decision like this is that important to me.

Deb, believe me, we TOTALLY get it! We're so obsessed that even after our own kitchens are done we stick around to feed our addiction with other people's houses!
