There seems to be a conflicting info about Nexus Birch.

Is it a real wood veneer or laminated? I'm talking about the fronts of the door, NOT the door construction.

We plan to color varnish the fronts and add trim. That can't be done with laminate

I have Nexus birch doors. I believe (as far as I can tell) it is a real wood veneer over particle board. The edges are finished with what looks like solid wood, definitely not a veneer tape because it is rounded around the edge of the wood.

There is a finish on it, though, that will probably repel the stain, and if you sand it off you might risk destroying the thin veneer layer.
