I'm curious what those of you with the Numerer Solid Oak countertops have done with them? Sanded? Stained? Sealed? Oiled? If so, with what products. We're considering sanding and sealing ours, not with oil, but with a food safe sealer that would offer more protection from stains.
If you did sand, what steps did you take and what grain sand paper.
Re: To finish or not to finish Solid Oak countertop
I use 120 sandpaper and Behandla oil (that's what IKEA sells). They recommed that when 1st installed, you oil it every other day, then every three months or so. The oil is food safe and stuff wipes up easily with no staining on mine yet.

I'm very pleased with it and think it looks great.
Re: To finish or not to finish Solid Oak countertop
I just finished numerar oak counters, which we cut down for use as shelves. They are finished in waterlox, which is foodsafe when cured. Before the first coat, I sanded them using a black and decker palm sander with a fine sandpaper. After the first coat, I wet sanded them using a 320 grit wet sanding paper (available at Home Depot -- you saturate the paper with water and then sand; it makes a slurry you then wipe of with paper towel). This was followed by 3 coats of waterlox, with 24 hours' drying time between each coat.

No, Harpy, we're good. Getting heavy rain and 35mph gusts. I live on a tidal canal and it's up about 3 ft but not over the seawall. My boat's riding high!
I hear St. Augustine has lots of flooding downtown. I lost a car there to Gabrial a few years back. Being a new community, Palm Coast has a good sewer/drainage system so I don't expect any problems. How are you guys?
