Well, it seems that to manage my VARDE sink, I'm going to have a lot of 12" base cabs...in fact, I'll have 2 flanking a 30" sink cab. One will store something TBD, but the other will store our dishes. They are just standard 10.5" plates and I intend to use a birch rack to store them vertically to distribute the weight across the entire pullout. So, I need to know if the dishes will fit in the cab this way (is it at least 10.5" wide in the interior? And, since the 12" pullout seems to have vanished from the planner, can someone let me know if it has drawer?
The 12-inch pullout comes with three drawers, two shallow ones and one deep one (with side rails) that attaches to the door and pulls out when you open the door.
The drawers are 8 3/4 inches from inside edge to inside edge at the top, and at the base of the drawer narrows to 7 1/2 inches because the sides of the drawers curve in at the bottom. All the drawers are the standard height of 2 1/2 inches from the inside bottom of the drawer to the top of the side, and the side rail of the bottom drawer sits at 6 inches above the bottom of the inside of the drawer.
Hmm, so no dishes...farg. I'll have some really tiny cabs it looks like. Amazing how 2" of drywall can really wreck a kitchen design .
So, in the alternative, what do people store in the 12" pullout? Looks like the dishes will be going on some GRUNDTAL shelves.
It also looks like I will have to downsize to an 18" dishwasher so that I don't end up with a mile of filler. *sigh*
This kitchen grows more and more difficult - either that or the clutter of remodeling is really starting to get to me. I hate for my space to be out of sorts - and I'm coming up on a year of redecorating/remodeling and disorganization.
I have one pullout next to my range, and I have three shallow drawers and one deep drawer in that one. I use the shallow drawers for spices, and the deep drawer for oils and sprays and vinegars etc. for cooking. I have another pullout in my coffee bar with one shallow drawer that contains spoons, stirrers, a sugar canister and a couple of frother pitchers, and the deep drawer contains my syrup bottles with pumps. I was originally going to use one of the pullouts for a trash can but decided it was more useful for spices.
We're currently planning on putting a 12" pullout on one side of our range and a regular 12" cabinet on the other side (I just posted the plans on the THS Ikea thread so we'll see if someone else has a better idea for me, but for the time being...). We're planning on using the pullout for all those cooking essentials that we end up digging for usually. Utensils like stirring spoons and spatulas in the top drawer. Spices in another. Oils and vinegars.
The regular 12 cabinet will be fitted with a divider for baking sheets, our griddle and the muffin pan. I'm sure a shelf or a little drawer could be put in this one to hold some other things as well, but I haven't quite decided yet.
Sorry, late to the party on this one as well. We have a 12" pull-out with 5 drawers in it. I picked up a couple of extras in the AS-IS room, and I'm thrilled with the additional space. We keep the kids dishes/bowls/cups/silverware in it, along with small pitchers for cereal milk, syrup and the like. The deep drawer on the bottom is fitted with some of the grey snap-ondividers and all of the sippy cups stand upright in sections like little soldiers. It's great for sorting and for the kids to help empty the dishwasher and set their own places.
Is there any room nearer to your dining area for an open shelving unit, ala MsAzadi? She used 2 12" (maybe 15") wall cabinets stacked without doors for her dish tower. I know you said Gruntdal, but if it's on the wall over the cabinets, will M be able to help?
Then again...if you're using a dish rack to stand the plates up, what's the width at that critical 0"-2.5"? Can you get some rectangular dishes?
I'm sure you can come up with a solution if that's really where you need to store them....
