I was wondering about the (hated!) wire baskets. I was wondering if they come in the shallow depth (12") in 15" wide. I know, I know, you curse me for even invoking the name! But it really would be a great addition to our kitchen. We have two 15" wide 12" deep cabinets making a little incidental work counter area on one wall, and we want to store things like our saran wrap and suchlike there. The drawers are thicker and take up a lot of room that could be used for storage, and shelves means hunkering down to see what is being stored there. So wire baskets it is...if they make them!
If you go to Target, in the Office Supply section (not where they have the real office supplies, but where they keep the decorative doodads for your desk) they have a whole series of squared off wire baskets in different sizes and shapes. Maybe you could just put those on the shelves? I know it's not as good as a built-in pullout, but it would be something, and the squared off corners mean you don't lose so much storage space as you would otherwise.
There are several places selling wire baskets as add-ons to existing cabs - maybe one of these would work? You mount runners to the shelf, and the wire basket sits on these runners. They come in all sizes, so maybe there's one that's 11" or so deep.
I put one in our current 24" deep pantry and it's been amazingly helpful. Sturdy wire and sturdy runners. Screwed the runners to the shelf, mounted the basket, took 15 min.
"Rev-a-Shelf" offers a very extensive line of pull-out things. I think you'd probably need to look at items for the upper cabinets, because of the 12" depth.
Hey Rubrik,
Yeah, I have been putting my feelers out, but have not been able to find anything for wall cabinets like this. Well, I did find one site that had pics of something like it, but it was a European site and wasn't what I needed.
