Top mount sink now, undermount later?

Hi everyone,

I'm installing a quartz countertop on top of my Adel MB cabinets, and for the sake of recycling/costsavings, I'd like to re-use my current top mount stainless sink. As I understand it, the installer will template, and cut a hole for the sink, which will be glued, dropped in and siliconed. I was wondering if I wanted to later on, could I rip this out, have the edging finished, and an undermount installed?

Thanks in advance for your input...

Re: Top mount sink now, undermount later?

i think the best person to ask is your counter installer since they will know the product limitations better.
but my gut is that it's not going to be possible. if you were simply screwing in a laminate or butcher block i would be able to say that i could see possibilities.

Re: Top mount sink now, undermount later?

I would tend to think that any cost savings you realize now will be spent later when you need to retrofit the undermount. Better to spend the money now, I think, if you really want the undermount, and recycle the sink elsewhere.

Re: Top mount sink now, undermount later?

I'm not really stuck on the undermount...I was really just wondering if the option would be there later on, but it's not that important. I'll just use the topmount and if I ever need to replace it, I'll use another topmount. Thank you both for your replies!
