Undermounting a Boholmen inset sink

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in trying to undermount 2 bowl + drainer drop-in sink to a maple butcher block counter. Any advice on how to go about his?

I have a 30" sink cabinet (biggest I can go) so I'm really limited with typical undermount options. My idea is to build a plywood sub-counter, top-mount the sink to that, then drop my maple counter on top and put a finishing nose on the edge to hide the plywood. DOes anyone see any potential problems?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Undermounting a Boholmen inset sink

The profile on the lip of drop-in sinks like the Boholmen series means to achieve the appearance of an undermount, the top profile must be cut into the underside of the countertop.

If you have all the right tools and a steady hand to do the precision cuts, it can be done with professional looking results. Otherwise it'd look rough at best and a potential for a moldy disaster at worst where the water seeps underneath the butcherblock and plywood.

Personally, I never had an issue with the slight edge of a properly installed drop-in sink.
