I found that the installers removed the front bracket that is suppose to support the sink on the bottom. Further I see why they did this - much to my dis-pleasure the counter top guy who came in to measure recommended that we make our back splash behind the sink as well, and that it would have no effect on the sink because they would install a thinner back splash than the counter top - since our cabinet could be flush with the wall, this seemed to be ok. They did not however install a thinner backsplash. SO I come in to find the sink hanging over 1 inch towards the front.
This is why the installers removed the front brace, because there was no room for it. further, the back brace is just sitting there not supporting the sink.
Out of curiosity I checked to see if the brace would be able to fit in the middle section of the cabinet to brace up the middle of the sink. I came to find that the mounting holes do not line up well enough to support the sink even if the sink was pushed back to where I think it should be.
So, long story - Can we use this sink without fear that it will collapse? It is only held up by its sides on the counter top.
Re: Domsjo farm sink, counter top incompatability?
After reading a few threads here:
in addition - step 18 of the manual requires brackets installed - that cannot happen in our current setup because of the counter-top backsplash. It was stated in another thread: Can anyone help me decipher the Domsjo instructions?
That this step does not matter because the weight of the counter top is sufficient. However - I would have to assume here that these folks also have their sinks resting on the bottom braces - so with that in mind, I am becomming quickly disappointed that I have to call the counter top installers to have them come in and fix this mess.
Re: Domsjo farm sink, counter top incompatability?
It's sticking out and even an aesthetic issue is problematic enough. I'd rather a Domsjo be supported as possible.
Your countertop people owe you some rework- get them out there asap and don't let them off the hook. They're going to tell you it's some other trade's fault, but don't let them. Make them install what they said they'd install at the original price.
Re: Domsjo farm sink, counter top incompatability?
i fully agree with kelly and i empathize with your pain. i got in a HUGE fight with my counter people on a recent install. we had a full height marble backsplash behind a single apron domsjo and they wanted to pull the sink forward. i told them they would void my warranty and that was NOT going to work. the guy says, "the only way to do what you want would be to notch around the sink" my response? "you're right, get to notching"
they owe you work, you don't want that puppy hanging out and not installed properly. sucks for them, but you're in the right.
Re: Domsjo farm sink, counter top incompatability?
I was under the impression that the rails do not actually support the Domsjo but prevent the sides of the cabinet from spreading apart:

for the Domsjo double bowl sink, those rails are not installed at all - they are replaced by flimsy metal bars which go side to side about 6 holes down from the top of the cabinet. Like the rails, the bars are there solely to kkep the sides from spreading.
The DOMSJO sink basically fits into a 36" wide (34.5" inside) cabinet...with no rails at the top. The sink is supported by the countertop on both sides of the cabinet, and is designed for a c'top thickness of 1.5" to match the 24" high IKEA doors beneath.
The steel braces are included with the sink. They are used to keep the cabinet squared, not to support the sink.

If you both learned your lessons from the "show and tell", then you learned that the two wooden rails are NOT used at all, and that the two metal bars are used as Narf discussed.
Just be careful when you install the sink - it weighs 120 pounds, and is rather fragile. You DO NOT want to drop it in place - lower it slowly. And if you've read about it here, you won't be surprised if it rocks a little bit when it's put in place - each unit is individually cast, and imperfections (as such) are the norm.

I'l tell you, Anne does her homework, and she knows her Domsjo!
The thing sticks out, they said they'd do something they didn't, it's not right and it's not DIY- so haul them back. My POV, regardless of Domsjo support.
Re: Domsjo farm sink, counter top incompatability?
I love being quoted...Anne, Kelly and Dulci are right in that the backsplash should not push the sink forward, as it protudes in stock form (the rails are only for side - to - side support).
I would insist that the sink is flush with the wall and the backsplash is around it.
