49" Corner cabinet - How the heck do you add the drawer??

OK. This is my second post regarding the rail that I'm trying to put in the 49" blind corner cabinet. I thought that I had the solution by using a 3/4 bolt and nut to secure the drawer in the 4th hole from the top, but after doing this, there was a gap at the top. I installed another 18" cabinet right beside the corner cabinet and realized the drawer rails should actually be installed in the 3rd hole from the top and not the 4th (at least that's what it looks like).

So, now I have to move the drawer rails up one hole, there's a stupid metal plate in the way! I've had more problems trying to figure out how to attach this one single rail than any other part of my kitchen. Someone must have had this problem before. There's no way that I'm missing something obvious and I've triple-checked the directions to make sure everything's installed correctly.

I've posted a couple pictures to show what I mean.

Re: 49" Corner cabinet - How the heck do you add the drawer??

I have the old style cabinet so I can't help with personal experience, but I've been installing a LOT of the top drawers in the last week and it looks to me like if you moved it up to the nonexistent third hole, you'd be too close to the top. How much of a gap is there when you install the drawer? Is there any chance that you put the drawer front upside down? It's pretty easy, although very non-intuitive to flip the drawer front back over.

To check, hold your drawer (the one that doesn't fit) up next to the one that is installed and that does fit. If you line up the box and the drawer front is obviously at a different level, then the drawer front is upside down.

I'll check again tonight, but I do have a cabinet installed right next to this one that has a top drawer that is the same height as this one, and it's installed in the 3rd hole from the top. I guess it's possible the door front is on upside down, but I really don't think it is.

Huh- I just rechecked the instructions and it says that the top drawer should be installed in the 4th hole from the top if you're using the normal drawer fronts. I think that there are some narrower versions available in Europe - are you by any chance using those?

I've been blogged!
Re: 49" Corner cabinet - How the heck do you add the drawer??

Top drawer glides go into the 4th hole from the top, or its equivalent (in case a hole is missing, a la the back piece of a corner wall cabinet). As I posted on your other thread, I've not yet run into the new style lazy baskets, so I can't speak to the difficulties you're having with the rail.

But the "4th hole down" thing is universal across the Akurum line.

Re: 49" Corner cabinet - How the heck do you add the drawer??

Thank you! Ok. So I did see the 4th hole in the instructions, but when I did that, there was a huge gap at the top of the drawer.

I listened to all of your suggestions and went back. I looked at the drawer front and according to the instructions, I had it on correctly. However.... I tried flipping it opposite to what the instructions say and moved the rails to the 4th hole. What do you know! It fits!

So... I'm attaching an image to this post, to show you that the instructions say that you need to place the clips closer to the top of the door front and specifically NOT closer to the bottom. This is incorrect. If you do it this way, and then figure out what hole to install in, you'll end up at the 3rd hole like I did. If you flip the door front, and install the rails on the 4th hole, you should be alright.

The hole in the metal is still much too small for the supplied screw, so head out to a hardware store and pick up a small nut and bolt and just attach the rail that way.

Re: 49" Corner cabinet - How the heck do you add the drawer??

Which instructions were you trying to post an image from?

We're actually trying *really* hard to document this sort of problem with instructions, if we don't have that set posted yet let me know which one it is and I'll get it posted.

Basically, you can go to any of the instructions sets (well the ones I've setup the images for), click on the relevant page then:

1. Click the yellow button to create a "Note"
2. Draw a box around the part of the instructions that is causing the problem.
3. Give your Note a name a REALLY brief description and click "OK".
4. A new post will be generated and linked to the section of the instructions page you indicated with your box, and you'll bee taken to a post editor so that you can outline exactly what's wrong with the instructions and provide tips/warnings/lessons learned so that the next person doesn't have the same problem.

We've spent a LOT of time and effort getting this new system up so that we can all finally FIX the instructions as a community!
Help out your fellow IKEAFAN and forever be the person that showed them a better way!

See DEKA Curtain Wire Assembly Instructions Annotated for an example of what I'm talking about...

Sure. Do you have a link to the page for Rationell drawers? I couldn't find an image that I could add comments to.

Re: 49" Corner cabinet - How the heck do you add the drawer??

James, are those annotatable versions going to go into the Ikeapedia soon? I noticed the older ones are still there and it's probably confusing for everyone because there's no universal search engine for the entire site right now.

Re: 49" Corner cabinet - How the heck do you add the drawer??

I'd like to second that comment made by NBeth. This site is very difficult to search for anything. It's not immediately clear to a user what the difference between an article, a guide or a post. When I use the search box at the top of the page, I expect the entire site to be searched, yet when I enter search terms in there, I *think* the search is limited to articles?? I have no idea. It took me forever to find any info on the corner cabinet with pull-out drawers.

Even after 10 minutes of searching, I couldn't find the exact article explaining how to remove the drawer fronts (only posts saying that there was a good article somewhere). I ended up going to Google and finding another site which explained it well.

Things need to be clearer here, and much easier to search.
