I was in the city (Halifax) looking at knobs for my cabinets on the
w
/e. I didn't expect it to be such a daunting task. Do I get black (matte or glossy?) or plain white ceramic or some sort of silver? The cabinets are white and the counters black (I think black, that's worthy of a therapy session in itself). I expect I'll have a chrome faucet, green (Georgian Green!) walls, the sink is an old farm sink with a drainboard and backsplash (white). The knobs also need to be cheap! I was looking (online) at the KOSING knobs but I'm afraid they'd be far too tiny. The price tempts me to try anyway. Thanks!
W definition
W is a wall cabinet designation, as in W18, can be a stand-in for Wide, or when followed by a / stands for With.
Are you looking for both knobs and pulls, or just knobs? I used Stat White, with soapstone countertops (charcoal gray), and I have a kinda sea green wall color--BM Sage Tint, and I picked brushed nickel pulls and knobs which kinda go with the stainless appliances. Of course, I found my knobs in a discount store years ago for a steal and that made the decision all the easier, but I think I would have chosen the same finish if I had all the money in the world. Maybe a different style. Who knows?
http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/pa...51887&ap=1Thanks! I really do love your kitchen. In fact, I seem to be inadvertantly taking all of your ideas - dark counters, green walls, STAT cabinets, white sink! I won't be copying your backsplash, as much as I do love it (have you done it yet? I saw the
pic
on another thread), mine will be painted for at least the next few years as budget dictates. I found some cheap knobs on line and will attach a couple of links. If you get a chance and would like to offer an opinion I'd be thrilled.
Looking at the ones in the far right in above photo.
oops, the link I was trying put down here jumped up to the top! Well, in the top link, I'm looking at the black chrome ones. They are very shiny tho, aren't they!
Very classic styling. Personally, I've never liked the shape of the Kosing, but that's me. Also, try http://www.wwhardware.com for a good selection and prices on knobs and pulls.http://www.wwhardware.com/catalog.cf...0%26%20Handleswill take you right to pulls. I know there's others, but I've gotta run and catch up with the kids outside--trying out new tricycles and roller skates! Ack! I'll check my favorites files and check back later.
Well, I did have fun cruising thru the knobs on the link, but, they are all far more than I can spend. Yes, even the ones in the bargain bin. The lindsal knobs would be one of my 1st choices but they would cost about $80 (Iknow, that's a very good price for hardware but I need a super duper good price for hardware!), the ones in the pics I linked too would be less than $20 to do the whole kitchen. I'm not crazy about the flower design on the nickel ones but I could live it, the black ones I'm thinking about despite the fact that they are v. shiny, the kosing seem to be teeny (have you seen them? are they teeny?). I guess what I want to know is if you think they would be hideous. I really have no design sense and am worried about ruining my new cabinets with icky hardware. I could also afford some plain white ceramic knobs, would that be better than the black chrome? I really appreciate you taking the time to help me with this!
ah....now that I look more closely at your link, I see that they're $6 per BAG of 10. That makes all the difference! I saw Lee Valley and just assumed they'd be pricey....
I think you'd probably get used to the flower design, but I don't know if I could get used to that shiny black. The Kosing are pretty small, if I remember them correctly--as I said, I never liked the shape of them. Kinda extruded and weird looking, but that's just my opinion, and for my kitchen.
Is $20 your total budget for hardware? How many do you need? I'll keep my eyes open. I know what it is to have a budget (of course, I also know how to blow it!)--I got the pulls that I have at a discount store for $.89 each, and the sink for $110 (value~$400), plus...well, IKEA cabs!!!
Thanks, I'll check that link now. Just tried ebay too and they have lots that should fit my budget. Just a little risky with
Canada
customs - could get expensive if they are a duty item. Worth a try tho. Looks like I could get almost anything I wanted from ebay! My budget is more like $50.00 than 20 but it's temting to get the cheapies and spend the $ elsewhere. The more I looked at the Lee Valley ones, the less I felt I could live with them. The safest bet may be white ceramic. I'm not really trying for any particular style (my house is 130yrs old tho). Not sure if you remember my before
pic
? I'll be happy with what I get but since I'm doing it, I want to try to do it as well as I can. We are doing other renos at the same time (new windows and doors, insulation) but they are just not as exciting as the kitchen! How much time will I spend in the attic with my new insulation?!

Oh, I can't seem to post a
pic
in the attachment spot. They are too "big" but I have the quality turned down on my camera. Is there something else I need to do? I bought some knobs today ($40 for 30 knobs) on special at a local store. Theya re plain brushed nickel, mushroomy, but not as round and with a thinner stalk. So I wanted to post a pic for advice/opinions! I was so excited pulling out a STAT door and putting a knob on for the "photo shoot". Perhaps I'll try later when i'm not so tired and HOT.
