Sorry if this has been discussed, but the search turned up nothing.
I vaguely remember a while back that someone had a problem with their Lansa handles - it seemed as though the handles weren't straight, and once installed they weren't level? Is this a widespread enough of a problem that I should fork outthe cash andbuy handles somewhere else? What is the quality like otherwise?
The problem is not with the LANSA handles. It is with the installation. Unless you're careful to get the holes aligned properly they will be off, and because they are a long line you notice it.
The proper way to take care of this is to use a template. IKEA just came out with a FIXA template that should be nice to use.
I just put on ALL my lansa (9") handles this week and didn't have a problem AT ALL with any of them. I used 12 packets purchased at different times.None of them look different, wonkyor weird. Heck, they look like a professional did them! Woo hoo!
I DEFINITELY made a wood template, carefully measured my center anddrilled pilot holes. I didn't have even a bit of trouble. I haven't seen the fixa template, but it sounds cool!
If you like the handles, but are worried, I wouldn't be. If you want to keep shopping for different handles, go ahead.
No Problem! I'm sticking with my mantra...if I can do it, ANYONE can do it!
I made a template out of 2 blocks of wood (in a L), put masking tape on the door, marked my center...marked the center on the cabs, drilled pilot holes, drilled regular holes, hooked the Lansa's on, tightened them up, they look great! I haven't tried the LONG lansa handles yet, they come later, I'll have to make a new template!
Here's the thread from someone who had trouble with her Lansa handles being defective/lopsided: http://www.ikeafans.com/forums/view_...hlight=handles
(For some reason, the thread didn't come up when I searched for lansa, but did when I searched for handles. Weird.)
That's the only person I've ever heard of having a problem, and tons of people buy Lansa handles (as you can see from this thread). It wouldn't hurt to check the handles to make sure they're okay before installation, but I don't think you should worry about buying them -- it was probably one bad manufacturing batch out of a thousand.
