In our soon to be completed (see that optimism?) ARLIG white and stainless kitchen, we have a mix of MODEST egg shaped knobs and the long ATTEST pulls on the big 30" drawers.

We have a cabinet that is completely dedicated to our dog, Tucker - a 12" pullout to that's the left of our sinkbase.

M wants to use a lime greenBASTIS (for lack of a better word) "dog butt" hook as the pull.

http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...rentCats=16026

Cute, no? Yes, it is cute. Yes, it is whimsy. But we could also not think outside the box and mount one beside the door for Tucker's leash.

I think she picked the lime green one to butter me up as it's my favorite color.

So, is it crazy to let your 5 year old have decorating authority? I mean, in the grand scheme the ARLIG door is dirt cheap if we end up hating it. The thing is made of "synthetic rubber" so it shouldn't bang us up too much.

It is cute.

I think it's adorable, and no, it's not crazy to give a kid a say. She'll be so happy, and a pull decision is not irreversible.

I think it's an adorable idea, and there's nothing better for a kid's confidence than having adults actually follow through on their suggestions!!! Maybe buy the extra 12" door now and store it somewhere in case ikea changes their colors a bit or something like that?

Well, you're probably asking the wrong person. Our kids have their own 12" pull-out pantry for dishes, cups etc., full custody of a 9" Perfekt unit for snacks, coloring books, etc., and 2 shelves in the back hall off the kitchen for their cleaning supplies, charts, piggy banks and related stuff. The 2 kidlets in our house have a lot of say in things--probably more than some people might think necessary, but they're only young for a while and giving them the opportunity to make decisions, to have influence over family choices and to be independent thinkers is one of our main responsibilities as parents, the way we see it.

3 cheers for lime green dog butts!

Susan

Yeah, we hit a bit of a snag with getting a job for me at my DH 's workplace in Ithaca, and we really won't know what the answer is for a couple months. That kind of mashed the kitchen excitement for me a bit. It's still fun to check in and see how everyone else is doing! Even if we get one of the other jobs we're applying for around the country, we still will probably make money if we redo the kitchen in this house before we sell it. So maybe in a month or so I'll be in "how can I best redo this without modifying the footprint???" mode.....

It's always so great to see other people's plans, and I feel like I'm just soaking up info for when/if I get to do it myself. Fagerland would look GREAT in our house, so maybe the college will pull through and give me the job they had on the table when I gave up the three job offers I had last spring. Stupid bait and switch....

Sorry for hijacking the thread! I still love those little doggy pulls.

I think it's a great idea, and will probably start a lot of conversations! I'm all for a little bit of humor, and 5 year olds are great for providing that!

Thanks guys. The only stumbling blocks now might be projection and mounting method...which isn't listed in the specs. Luckily, because we did things galley style, there's no real crunch for walk room - I think we could go pretty chunky before we'd have to abandon the idea on a technicality.

Another plus, as mentioned by my dad, is it would be a good place to hang a dishtowel while you're working.

ETA : I'm guessing, based on eBay listings, that it has that keyhole bracket in the back...so, I wonder if I'd be able to make it work on a high use cabinet...anyone? We're all so good at getting around potential problems here.

Lisa - You're right, it is a keyhole bracket in the back. Myabe a long bolt with a nut inside the cabinet door would work.I just looked at them at Seattle Ikea and was ready to buy a bunch, except that they had only red ones. It's pretty big, but very cute and feels good.
