nope, not standard, yup it's in the blog... i actually don't remember all the details of it, but i know i put it together with cover panel and there is a much more elegant way of doing it, but i was overworked, under pressure and had a subcontractor on site who was a class A jerk... so it's totally functional and pretty, but not my finest work
or i could have MEANT to write it up in the blog... gosh i can't believe i never wrote even an article about it...
ok, let me create a record and maybe i'll get the article out one of these evenings....
So, we took a 18" tall 24"wide cabinet and mounted it on the rail... i then put a side cover panel on it (for a 39" cab, so it was 42"), cut a peice of cover panel and braced it underneath with some stained cleats and brackets. i used door skin for the back which i stained. then i ran deco strip at the front edge, but it didn't meet the cover panel since we needed the micro shelf to be lower, that is why you see a 3ish inch segment of deco strip on the side. If it were not for the cleats i could have ran that the full length, it would have been more elegant and maybe i'll go fix that in the future, who knows
i know i have pictures of it all somewhere that i can fish out and post...
btw
, my mom is from Kimberly (grandma is still there) and the other side of my family is all from Twin. Heck, my cousin just graduated hs this yr from there
For not being your best work, it's pretty impressive! I get the idea and it gives me the nitty-gritty of what I was thinking I'd need to do. But, what the heck is door skin?
Here's an idea...... how about spending some nostalgia time in my evolving kitchen, just moments from downtown (ha!) Kimberly?
I can only hope my best work compares favorably with your worst!
i spend time up in the area, in fact, i wanna get up there and visit grandma (right near Max's Pizza ) without my kids, poor woman had to deal with my rascles in April when we visited...maybe we can grab a cup of coffee
ok, fished some pics out of my photo dump (in my siggy if you really want to peruse my projects)

you can see the skin in the 4th
pic
, it's what you would put over a door in order to give it the grain texture, it's thinner than 1/8th and pretty cheap, yet is wood so it stains nicely. other stuff could be used, but i had it on hand. home depot (i prefered the hardware store that closed down) would call it "door skin" and it would be near the hard board
i'll explain the pic #2 is the back of the cabinet, i used the oven cover panel brackets and attached them to the wall (through the skin) and then set the cover panel "floor" on it and drilled from below, a non standard L bracket, but i really liked how it worked...pic #3 is the bottom of the cabinet and that L. and #5 is before i attached the deco strip.
Thanks. The pics with the text helps. I was clicking back and forth and losing the gist of it in between. I probably will have questions, but not till we get down to it.
Coffee, definitely! Just let me know when. If it's any time within the next year, it'll probably be a kitchen-in-process consult.
NO NO! That's supposed to be a joke....... please, let it not come true!
