Question about top trim Adel Kitchen

I am about to install the trim at the top of my kitchen cabinets, but before I cut, I am wondering how to handle the top of the open shelves next to the cabinets - do they get trim too? The open shelves flank a middle window over the sink. On one hand I think it would look odd, on the other hand there will be a difference in the top height of the cabinet verses the shelves.

Here is a picture I took before the bottom cabinets went in. It shows how the shelves are on either side of the window.

I recall someone did a beautiful job trimming out the perfekt shelves in lijestad... let me see if I can find the post...

Ok here it is:

2 Liljestad kitchens, 1 applad, 1 arlig

It looks like they mitered the corners and went all the way around. Does this help at all?

The mitered look is exactly what I was going to suggest. I wouldn't leave those open shelves without trim - I think it would look out of place.

I know this is an old thread, but question:

When you are referring to trim, does Ikea sell trim to match the various cabinets? I'm doing Adel birch and I'm trying to figure out this trim thing.

There is some trim available, but it can be pricey. There is an under cabinet trim to hide under cabinet lighting, it can go on the top of the cabinets too. There is also the toe kick that you can trim to use as spacers between cabinets.
I made trim to match since I made the countertop granite tile and needed an edge and splash top edge. Matching the color of Med. Brown was important and I was able to combine stains and some acrylic paint to match it exactly. Clear Birch should be easier if that is the color you are using.
