Chimney extractor w/charcoal

Has anyone used the chimney style extractor hood with the charcoal filter? I am wondering how you might mount it so it looks like it is outside vented? I am looking at the Ikea kitchen catalogue and they all look like there is outside vent hooked up to the extractor hood. Or if you use the charcoal, do you just mount as is? If so, does that look weird? Thanks!

Re: Chimney extractor w/charcoal

I don't know the answer to the question you've asked - but do want to point out that the performance will not be as good using the vent w/ charcoal vs venting to the outdoors. Is there any chance you can have a vent to the outside ??

Re: Chimney extractor w/charcoal

One important consideration - what do you have now? If your current set-up is filtered, then you're probably not going to see much of a difference any way. If, however, you'd be switching from a vented to a filtered (or vice versa), that's where you'd see a big performance/effectiveness difference. I agree, if you CAN vent, you probably do want to, otherwise you're just recirculating the same air. Granted, the filter will help, but not with everything.

As to the aesthetics, my understanding is that the chimney styles are installed with the chimney, even if you aren't venting. You're the only one who will know whether or not it's ACTUALLY venting to the outside!

Re: Chimney extractor w/charcoal

I was interested in the chimney hood purely for aesthetic purposes as I was playing around with my design a little bit. Right now we just have a OTR microwave with a fan and I suppose that is just what we will do with our remodel as well. I was just curious if anyone had used them with charcoal and, if so, how they mounted them so it looks like an outside vent. Thanks anyway!
