quick RATIONELL question

i bought a 24" rationell drawer and the little bar face thing for it. I was under the impression i could use it in 24" bottom cabinet in place of a shelf.

looking at it in the package, i'm not sure thats the case, as i think it will just hit the door on the way out.

does this make since ? can i put a pullout drawer or 2 in a standard cab/door ?

thanks ! i love this site !

stephen

Re: quick RATIONELL question

Welcome!

You can get the 150 hinges for your door so it will open far enough but I think you'll have a hard time setting the drawer up on the bottom because the rails and the hinges conflict with one another.

Or you can use a basket on the bottom--they don't conflict with the regular hinges but some don't like them as well. I think they're OK if you line them with drawer liner stuff so the little things don't fall thru the holes.

Or you can convert the door to a pullout and put a bunch of drawers in there if you like. The package with the drawer front also has the parts to make a pullout: plugs for the hinge holes in the door, etc.

OR, you can buy a set of drawer fronts and drawers and change it to a drawer cab.

I hope these are enough choices--I don't think I've forgotten any!

Re: quick RATIONELL question

Beth is correct. The 153 degree hinges are required for the internal drawers to work.

I used actual drawers in my pantry. You can take a peak in my gallery.

Re: quick RATIONELL question

videoboy--

I ran into a similar issue. My kitchen has two 24" cabs. One has a shallow drawer and two 12" x 24" doors. I wanted to use an internal drawer for this cab but found that it hangs too low to allow me to store my dog food bin underneath it.

I might the wire basket a try--need a place for dog-related stuff.

The second 24" cab has three drawers:

Re: quick RATIONELL question

You've got two choices in Nexus Birch:

18x24" door is $33 (hinges along the long 24" side)

24x18" door is $32 (hinges along the shorter 18" side)

I think the best door to get is the 18x24" door. The hinges are on the long side. So when you flip your door 90 degrees to convert the door to a drawer front, you can hide your hinge holes along the bottom of your new pullout.

You'll fit the holes with those wooden plugs and they'll be hidden by the drawer.

Double-check this with your IKEAn but I think I'm right... Can anybody else confirm this?

You'll also need a deep Rationell drawer. Make you sure you get wooden plugs and a template.

E
