30" cooktop and wall oven in a 30" space with no base cabinet?
Is this feasible? I have a 30" space for cooktop with wall oven beneath (small kitchen, want induction cooktop). I could put in a 27" wall oven into a 30" base cabinet, or I was wondering if I could put a 30" wall oven into the space without a base cabinet. The cooktop essentially rests on the countertop, and the weight would be pretty well distributed since there will be base cabinets on each side. Could I create a platform on legs for the oven and then fit a nice 30" one in there, or am I crazy? Thank you!

30" wall ovens typically aren't truly 30" wide, as the measurement is just the front.
Look at the installation dimensions instead.
That said, omitting the cabinet can be done as long as you are certain you have enough support for the countertop, as you are reduced to two 3/4" walls supporting the span now instead of the two 1-1/2" walls that would've been the result should there have been a cabinet in place.

Re: 30" cooktop and wall oven in a 30" space with no base cabinet?
I've got a 30" Bosch wall oven in a a 30" base cabinet underneath a 30" gas cooktop (was made by Thermador before they sold this particular line to Bosch), and the oven fits just fine. We're trying to figure out how to attach the drawer front that will cover the gap between in such a way that it can be used to store (as it is now) extra racks. It's a little tight for a drawer, I think--some sort of clip in/clip out arrangement would be perfect.
But at any rate--enough about me and my oven! I believe 30" ovens are generally intended to fit--just--into 30" cabinets. Check out the installation specs on the model(s) you're interested in.

Perhaps a 30" drawer front as a fold-up door? These hinges + some side stays might work (check clearances!) ...

Thanks for the idea! I hadn't thought to try a flip-up application. We've got the drawer front, it's just a question of how to attach it. I take it that the hinge shown does not lock in an upright position? Can someone tell me what sort of hinges are used on the horizontal cabs to hold up the door, and what's the angle of the door in the open position?

It doesn't lock; the Ikea horizontal cabinets use regular hinges + special Ferrari hinges that allows it to open easily but not close without some added force.
My reasoning for flip up is that the cooktop is already an obstruction, so you won't be losing more space versus a flip-down.
