Discuss Planning the farm kitchen again... on IKEAFANS.com. We're Personalizing the IKEA Experience. Planning the farm kitchen again... - Need help with planning your remodel? Want a kitchen planner to review your ideas? This is the happenin' spot!.
I tried to download the planner and it will NOT work on my computer...so let me help you visualize what I have and help me decide what to do.
We are redoing the kitchen area of the community owned organic farm that I am on the board of and I had posted a plan a week or so back, but after looking at options and prices, we have decided to increase the scope of the renovation of the space...so here goes.
The kitchen is the back of a large workshop space with everyone's desks and shelves and office storage. In the center of the kitchen area is a brick island with the dishwasher and sink. When using the sink you are facing out towards the office. None of this is moving.
To the left of the island is a wall with a row of high windows down its length. We want to do a length of 96" worth of drawer units underneath the windows. I am thinking a 30", 36", 30" combo. To the right, attached to the drawers will be a 88" tall pantry that is 15" wide that I have left over form my mismeasurement of my own kitchen renovation.
Behind the island is the stove. It is I believe 40 inches long with two 15 inch gross gross gross cabinets on either side. Above are old mismatched hanging wall cabinets that have been painted orange. To the left of the oven and its lovely cabinets is the refrigerator that is butted up against the wall.
I will try to get pictures tomorrow when I go to pick up salad greens.
So the questions:
1. We could move the oven to the right to combine spaces or leave it where it is...so what would you put in the oven space. What combo of base and wall cabinets would you use?
2. Door styles:
We have decided against white for reasons of dirt, kids, flies, and general farmy life.
We have decided against anything that is not flat, as any sort of edge will collect dust.
Which style would you choose...do you feel that Nexus of any color is durable?
Which do you think will match a stove like this that is already there...

I think the lighter wood like the Nexus Birch would look better with the pink stove. It's a shame you couldn't use the Askome Ash because
IMO
it would look the best with the pale pink. So, the pink stove stays?
I LOVE the stove! That is the coolest thing ever. I really like the pink with chrome/stainless, white and black&white checkers. That is my favourite combo. Some of Ikea's white cabinets are REALLY durable and will not show the dirt any more than nexus birch - maybe withstand family life better than wood.
Here are some cool images I found.
I LOVE pink and black. How about this colour combo:
Here is true pink retro with a birch type cabinet. I don't like it quite as much as black and white:
I didn't know AGAs came in pink:
I really love the black and white checkerboard with pink - whether on the floor or the backsplash. It looks amazing.
And don't forget Kitchenaid's breast cancer appliances:
I agree with zeuss that white will definitely look the best, Askome ash next since it's so light. I think that it would look great with Stat or how about Lidingo. Black and White checkboard would look great, as well as a paler version...perhaps light gray and white for a softer look.
If the floor is concrete, yuou could tape off sections and paint a checkerboard pattern on it. Even if you did that around the edges like a border, it would add interest to the space.
The brick island throws me a little bit, with regards to color schemes. It might or might not look good with white cabinets. Is the brick natural, or is it painted?
With regards to layout, photos will help. If you like, you can

me measurements and I can try to put them into the planner for you, and post them.
PM definition
PM means Private Message or when addended by an S, can refer to PMS. If you don't know what that means, don't ask.
I have a flat panel white (Applaud I think) in my sewing/family room. It is really durable and super easy to wash. I would totally recommend it for your situation. The door has a rounded over edge on the sides and a really tough material on the door edge top and bottom. Maybe you could find a door in the As Is or buy a 15"x15" door to show the director. I really think it would be your best bet. Plus it is one of the cheapest door styles (not the cheapest because that one isn't very durable).
First a
pic
of our antique barn....one of my favorite places
Next the gross un updated insides of the workshop/kitchen. Most of this had open shelving and donated cabinets that didn't/don't work. We want closed drawers and cabinets to keep the dirt and dust out. We want to put drawer units under the windows on the right. There is about 24 inches above the windows...should we put wall cabinets up there?? The floor is presently a brick red paint.
A better look at the wall space. Between the space where the fire extinguisher sign is and the next window we will put in an 88 inch high 15 inch pantry that I already own.
Thoughts on this...isn't it lovely. I am thinking an over the refrigerator cabinet for baking pan storage. Then there are 70 inches of wall cabinet space over the stove. Right now there are 15 inch units on either side of the stove...we could push it to the right and create a 30 inch space between the stove and the refrigerator.
Other thoughts that I am having...after speaking with the intern who lives there and actually uses the kitchen for all her meals etc. She comes by as a mothers helper/cleaning lady for 2 hours a week and loves my new kitchen and has ideas as to what she would like.
1. Maybe paint the concrete two different colors to delineate between the kitchen area and office area. She hopes this would keep kitcheny stuff in the kitchen and officey stuff in the office.
2. She wants drawers for all the dishes and pots and pans. She loves them with the separators at my house and the fact that things are not on top of each other in piles. Presently the pans are hanging on the walls and often need to be rewashed before use.
3. She loves my pull out pantry and will use it for food storage. This way food is away from insects and other fun things that farms have.
4. She wants an over the fridge cabinet for all the baking stuff, where it is stored vertically...like my kitchen.
5. We would use a pragel countertop. Something that can be scrubbed and disinfected without issue.
6. She and i wonder about the coffee maker. She and I agree that we want empty counters. We want nothing left out so that the surfaces can be easily cleaned and kept clean....It is nothing but a cheapo Mr. Coffee, but where would you put it.
