This site is brilliant! I've been hooked on it for 6 months and have made steady progress in refining this kitchen layout. We went to our local Ikea today and found the kitchen folks less than helpful with design advice.
We want the kitchen to be open and weloming with room for socializing. We are going for a traditional feel with white cabinets and soapstone countertops.
We are knocking out the wall between the dining and kitchen area and creating a good sized pantry for storage. I'd appreciate any tips on flow, storage, etc. Thanks so much!

Here we go! I need practice with thumbnails, anyway.
Nardij, welcome to IKEAfans! I wish you luck with your plans. You will get some great advice here.
I see that you have a LOT of little walls in this room. I take it there is no way to move them in order to open things up a bit? What is that long niche to the right of the stove, a doorway? It would be valuable countertop real estate!
I love the huge windows, I hope you have a pretty view!

Are you wedded to the idea of a walk-in pantry? Some members here at Ikeafans were convinced that the ikea pantry units would actually give them more storage that was more accessible than their planned walk-in pantries.
I agree with Emmie, it would be nice if you didn'thave to have the short walls next to the fridge and on the other side of the door from there. An end panel beside the fridge would gain you valuable inches next to the stove.
I would really like to see more space next to the stove. It is a shame to have such a nice spacious kitchen with you crammed into such a small space while cooking. I feel the same way about such a small sink. You have room for a nice big sink.
Without the short wall by the door near the fridge, you could have a 24" pantry or 24" drawer unit. That 21" base and wall cabinet will be awkward to use behind that wall.
Finally, because you have a penisula where your corner is, you could put a 24" door and shelf unit that opened on the eating area side. Then you wouldn't need the 49" corner unit. Instead, you could have a drawer unit nder the glass door wall cabinets, and a 24" unit facing the back way. (make sense?)

It still concerns me how little cooking space there is next to the stove, and there is quite a bit we could do about it, but it would sacrifice pantry space.
