Hi - This is a great forum with really good ideas and design expertise. I could really use some help. Just yesterday I got drawing for a layout of a marriage of my kitchen and dining room renovation in my small cape. The space is difficult because there are great water views and hence - very few upper cabinets. I am clueless when it comes to layout. This is what I have put together so far. Note that all doors shown are open entrys. The actual front of the house with the corner and all the windows will be curved. That is why the windows are on the smaller side. The laundry room will aslo funtion as a pantry. The oven and cabinet beside it have a halfwall behind them to let in western light. The wall by the table is also a half wall. I have seen such great, valuable knowledge from this group that I hope I can be saved. Any help and ideas would be greatly appreciate. Linda
Thanks - I think I uploaded a planner file. I did not know how to get bigger thumbnails - sorry. This is a bit of a learning curve in more ways than one. I apprecitate your time and any feedback. Linda

A few major flaws ...
- Stove location without any adjacent landing space is a safety no-no.
- I'm doubting that the dishwasher is only 16" wide.
- It would've been impossible to get a washer/dryer through that 20" gap with the pantry in the way!
I pretty much reworked all of it ...
- 36" stove is centered on the island, as such makes for better entertaining. The other side is purposely high for safety. Countertop overhang isn't shown.
- Sink/dishwasher on the short wall.
- Pantry rearranged with wall cabinets over the washer/dryer, and hopefully enough room to squeeze a Forhoja cart right beside it. I used Sorbo fronts here ... the birch edging still keeps it coordinated, but it's much more affordable without the "garage cabinet look" of Arlig white.

Hi Narf - Thanks so much for you time and ideas. I don't know how I got such a small dishwasher in there. Mine is standard size. This is all going to be new construction so the space is a bit estimated. I know what you mean regarding the range and space. I need to find a way to keep the oven opening facing east. It's a Feng Shui thing and seems rather important. I may have to talk to the fellow who is doing my drawings to see how we can make more space for that. Do you have any ideas or suggestions to that end. What you have done to the Laundry/Pantry is great. Much more storage. I have a hard time picturing the actual space as it is now multiple rooms that will all be opened up together. I have switched to white cabinets again for (Feng Shui for myself and my home) either the Adel or the Lidingo. Any thoughts on either of those. I am getting a sample Lidingo door today to live with for a while. I had to order it as our store does not stock it. Thanks again for your time and help. Regards Linda
Well if you're talking feng shui, then you're going to have to take it one step further and enclose the kitchen.
Yes, I'm serious on that ... and there is some sense to it too. An open kitchen means cooking fumes spread everywhere.
Can you post up an architectural or sketch of the entire area? That may offer some other options ...
As for white styles ... Adel is more contemporary, Lidingo is more traditional. What other styles do you have in the other areas?

Hi Narf - I don't know tons about Feng Shui but I did have a house consultation done based on my home's floor plan and my kua number. I got the attached drawing later that same day. I live in this area of the house due to the beautiful views. The current configuration does not take advantage of the views. There is currently a tiny dining room at the front of the house. That will now be a part of the kitchen. As you will see in the drawing, the range originally was to go on the south wall but I have changed that based on my consultation. My home is pretty traditional - a standard cape decorated kind of beachy. Thanks again for looking over my plans.Interior Remodel (2).pdf
Several hours reworking it all (the dimensions input into the planner were off enough a bit to throw several aspects out of whack) ... here's what I have laid out.
- Pantry reworked ... previous layout wouldn't have.
- Really is it going to be a ceiling height wall or a half wall between the foyer and the kitchen?
- On the same wall, just square off the cubby that the architect had for the fridge ... 4' of aisle clearance isn't a necessity there.
