Greetings! We are closing on a 1920's co-op apt next week, and soon after we will begin revamping the old neglected space. I am kinda stumped what to do with the kitchen--it has magically shrunk since I last saw it (basically the broker's floor plan was way off on the kitchen.) I am able to take down the wall between the kitchen and the dining room--however, a portion near the front door has to remain (it contains electrical).
Our style in five words or less: Mid-Century Danish with a hint of baroque moderne.
Just a quick question - do you have a specific reason for wanting those two units with 4 drawers instead of 3. I'm just wondering because you simple modern look would suit having only 3 drawer units to preserve the clean simple lines. The 4 drawer units break up the horizontal lines.
Fridge is kinda odd right there at the front entrance, no? Anyways, I cut down the area in the planner to just the kitchen ... much more workable that way. Please double check the dimensions that it's all correct.
I did take advantage of that third wall and put the fridge there. A 24" fridge is quite limiting, however, and I'm not sure if that is really what you intended for.

Moderne baroque is very in this year in France. Lots of black (and some white) shiney materials with baroque shapes. All the shops have stuff, from lamp shades to chairs to mirrors. There are alot of shiney black kitchens are which use the baroque style as an accent.
To link it in with mid centruy danish I assume you are talking more about the white pieces than the black; I have seen scandanavian style with white painted baroque and it can work very well.
Wow, thank you all for coming to the rescue!
Zeuss--you are right about the drawers! I am a bit overwhelmed by the thought of not having a walk-in pantry--so I was trying to grab more space.
Narf--the fridge size, I am chicken to put in a bigger one (I am so use to apt size frig. is there room for a bigger one? I had bumped out the room in my layout in an attempt to make more room. I am really used to an island, and wouldn't mind if it spilled into the other room. I am more of a drawer user--so when planning cabinets I am clueless...should wall cabinets be flush with the ceiling vs. 3/4 up the wall? I know I need the storage--should I be concerned about the visual space shrinking or be realistic that I don't have an open kitchen?
fondatfancy--you nailed it--shiny but not gaudy! I like the thought of mixing the two styles to provide texture, contrast and depth.
Here is a revised layout - but there are a lot of questions attached to it:
1. How many people live here? (This will impact the fridge size - I put in a 30" fridge)
2. Do you want open space under the cabinets? (Your plan shows Numerar legs - no toekick).
3. Can you combine the range fan and a microwave to save space?
4. If your ceiling height is 114" you could consider stacking wall cabinets for extra storage.
5. How large a sink do you really need? (I used a 24" sink cabinet)
6. Do you want to sit on the back-side of the island?
7.Would you consider a counter-depth frigde to minimize the intrusion?
8. Do you need two pantries?
9. What type of range are you considering (slide-in vs. free-standing)?
10. What type of countertop are you considering?
