We're about to start out installation (we have a pro installer helping us). He thought it was odd to have the dishwasher next to the fridge as we currently have in our plan. He suggested that we move it to be right next to the sink instead. We wanted to see what people thought on the forum as well. We have an 18" drawer cabinet where we plan to keep our cutlery etc, so we want easy access to both the sink and the drawers to/from the dishwasher.
Any suggestions are appreciated, we need to make a decision on Tues!
Folks usually suggest the dishwasher right next to the sink for plumbing purposes, as not all dishwashers are capable of pumping to a drain that's located further away.
Another aspect is that the countertop is easier to support with cabinets on both ends, as opposed to a cabinet on one side and a panel on the other.

not to mention that if you are moving your dirty dishes from the sink to the dishwasher, you'll have a shorter distance to reach when loading it....and less chance of dripping water or crumbs all over the place.
and visually it feels more comfortable from a design standpoint having a cabinet between the two appliances.
I like the dishwasher right next to the sink, for the reasons the others have mentioned.
I also think that the heat (however little) that the d/

gives off will affect the efficiency of the fridge, similar to having the stove right next to it just not as severe.
W definition
W is a wall cabinet designation, as in W18, can be a stand-in for Wide, or when followed by a / stands for With.
I agree, dishwasher next to sink. You could survive having it farther over, but the expense of installing would probably be higher with plumbing having to run behind, under or through that 18" (and having to explain to the plumber, too), and the 18" would get pretty dirty with water slopping around. Also, can you get into the fridge if the
dw
is open with this configuration?
DW definitions
DW can mean Dear or Darling Wife (or substitute your expletive), or alternatively DishWasher. Take your clues from the context.
