The only way I seem to be able to get my sink even somewhat (not exactly) centered under my window is to go with a 24" sink cabinet. I am not happy with that sink size at all! So I thought I would see what happens if I don't put the sink under the window at all, at least then it won't look off center and I can get a 36" base.
Option 1 is with the small sink "centered" under the window.
Option 2 is with the large sink not under the window at all.
What do you think?
Thanks,
Amy
P.S. The wall with the 2 drawer units is going to be taken down so not an option for anything else.
If you are not happy with the smaller sink, I say go with option 1, but personally, aesthetically, I like the way the sink looks under the window.
My only question though is that it seems weird having your fridge behind a swinging door. Where does that door lead? Closet, Pantry, or another room? if another room, go with option 2.
It would drive me stark raving mad to work at a sink right next to a fridge like that, so I'd go for the window position. And who says the sink has to be centered? I've used plenty that aren't. Maybe you could center the faucet (depending on style of sink)? But take heart: a big 24" single bowl sink has more room than most bowls in double bowl sinks--and with the dishwasher, the main thing you'll be doing with it is scrubbing big pots, so you'll actually have a more useful sink using the window version you've chosen .
Have you considered the single bowl farm sink from Ikea? It's really cool.
My Sister's kitchen has the same problem of not being able to center a 36" sink under the window. She will be getting a single Domsjo sink in the 24" cabinet. It might not be a double, but that bowl is huge. The disappointment in not getting a double sink is far less than any other option. In a few weeks I hope to have it installed and pictures will follow.
My sink won't be centered. I stressed about that until I spent some time flipping through kitchen cabinet catalogs, and I was surprised at the number of sinks I saw *not* centered on the window.
I would also much prefer an uncentered sink to one right next to the fridge... I just feel like there is no space to put things down as you take them out of the fridge. I also agree with the people that say that a 24" single-bowl sink can actually be rather huge. Go to Home Depot and measure some sinks and see - I bet you'll be surprised.
But these are just my opinions. For my remodel, my sink will be both smaller than 24", and not centered on the window. This allowed me to include things that were more important to me, like a set of drawers and a wall cabinet next to the dishwasher. It's all about what you want.
