We're Almost Ready to Order - I Need To Be Reassured
I think we're very close to the ordering stage. It's been a long process, but this board has been unbelievably helpful. I check it daily to see what kind of threads are being added and to pick up any helpful hints / ideas for our project. I've attached 5 jpgs.
A couple of notes:
The wall above the sink will be cut out / pass through to the dining room. Currently, there is 1 36" wall cab that will be removed. I tried to denote the cut out with a window.
There is a 6-7" inch gap between cabs on the wall with the stove. I'm planning on putting in a Revashelf there for spice storage. My question is, how much free space should I leave? If the gap is 7", would a 6" revashelf leave enough wiggle room for leaning walls or anything else that might be uncovered during the install?
There is a 5-6" gap in the base cabs on the same wall. Again, I was thinking about doing another revashelf here, but I think bending down to reach spices would be a pain. I was hoping that the gap would be large enough to put in a 6" revashelf so I could store oils there, but it doesn't look like there will be enough wiggle room.
I have attempted to include cookbook storage on the end of the row of wall cabs. Does anyone like the shelf? How many cookbooks can it hold? I had originally put a 12" cab there without the door, but thought that it might look strange. Any ideas?
The sink wall row of base cabs ends with a 15" pullout for trash and recycling. That will be nice to have.
Our fridge is 30", but I boxed it in in a 36" space in case we want to upgrade sometime (that's a recommendation straight from this site).
Like I said before, this site has been amazingly helpful. Any other ideas you might recommend?
I've been reading about the 10% promotion, but don't know what it entails. I think it pertains to complete kitchens and I don't know what they are.
Re: We're Almost Ready to Order - I Need To Be Reassured
Looks like a solid design! If you don't have room for two of the revashelf pull outs, you can just put in little pegs and shelves, which would be great for cookbooks. Someone else was talking about a custom pull out for utensils similar to Stacylu's broom pull out but on a mini scale. And of course, you can just put a bottom on it leave that space as is add a door and use it for cookie sheets, etc.

Kelly,
Great idea about cookie sheet storage (perhaps cutting boards as well). That would work well there. I'm still not sold on that free-standing shelf at the end of the wall cabs row. I'm just not sure how much storage the open shelves.
Re: We're Almost Ready to Order - I Need To Be Reassured
Don't put it if you not sure, mainly because it looks good in open corners not closed like yours
Try a white wall cabinet there, and mount it in the continuity of the others, just don't buy the door, if it doesn't look OK after, you'll just have to buy a handle, a door and a pair of hinges and close it, but don't forget: "white", just like your lovely kitchen.
Re: We're Almost Ready to Order - I Need To Be Reassured
I forgot to mention my opinion about the gap between the stove and the cabinet, like you said it may turn out to be a spice thing, but wouldn't it be better at the end, near the wall side, that way you could align the bottom fronts with the upper wall fronts, and the same gap would show all he way up to down and up again.
Re: We're Almost Ready to Order - I Need To Be Reassured
I'm including an alternative showing some changes. Overall your design is really nice, these are just my observations... I agree with your reservations about the shelf in the corner - it's hard to get into a corner like that so I put a 36" cabinet there so that when you open the doors you have better access. Cookbooks could go inside and stay cleaner (unless they're really big). I put another 36" cabinet because you get more usable space with one 36" than with two 18". I put all glass doors just because they look good - I know that a lot of people suggest no glass near a stove but I have found in the short time I've been using my kitchen that it's not a big issue - I also don't mind seeing the stuff inside but that's also a personal decision. I switched the sink and d/w to give you a good amount of countertop on both sides of the sink - for me that would be more convenient. Anyway, just some ideas to take or leave. Good luck with your project.
Re: We're Almost Ready to Order - I Need To Be Reassured
bgs, thanks for the work you put in on the planner - I really appreciate it! I think I'm definitely going to scrap the open shelving in the corner. Not only is it hard to access, but you don't get the full aesthetic benefit of the shelf because it's right up against a closed wall.
