Hello all. New to this site. I have been reading the posts here and got a lot of ideas. I am planning to redo my kitchen in Adel MB and have been working on the design for the past few days.
My kitchen height is 80". I would really like to get 39" upper cabinets, but that will not let me get the 18" required gap between the countertop and upper cabinets. Please tell me that I can do something better than 30" upper cabinets with a gap on the top.:(
I don't see how 30" cabs yield a gap at the top. In fact, I'm not sure you even have room for 30" cabs, since 80" - 36" base and 30" wall cab = below standard 14" between counter and wall cab! Can you post your planner file? You may need to make some creative modifications to make things work well for you...
Can you post the actual planner file please? As for whether the 39" cabs will work, the same math applies: 90 - (36 + 39) = 15", which is very marginal clearance. Another member, JimGo, came up with a creative solution which would give you three more inches to play with: he cut the 39" cabs down to just about 36", then installed a shallow drawer under a 30" door. If your sizes happened to fit you could stack 15" and 18" high cabs to get to 33" but most people would prefer flexibility in a tall cab to that solution.
I think the concept of drawers at the base of upper cabs is cool. I saw another kitchen that had a series of small drawers there, maybe 5 or 6 inches wide each, that was also very cool.
