please review my kitchen design

Hello all!

I'm getting ready to order my kitchen cabinets and was wanting feedback on my kitchen design. All suggestions are appreciated, but I am particularly interested in comments about the wall cabinets. I am leaning against putting wall cabinets on the sides of the stove because I think it may feel more open without them (and I think I have plenty of storage without them). Is this weird? If I only put wall cabinets on the back row (as the design is currently), should I leave a gap between the wall and the one to the farthest left? Please note that the cabinet doors we plan to use on the wall cabinets are the Rubrik white/aluminum, but I can't figure out how to put them on with the planner. A second issue I have is with the sink--does anyone have a good suggestion for an undermount sink that fits well in the 30" cabinet?

Many thanks!
Michael

Re: please review my kitchen design

Welcome to IKEAFANS Michael!!

I took a quick glance at your layout and what concerns is the clearance you have to get into the kitchen.

The range without any wall cabinets seems OK to me.

Are you planning on having bar stools opposite the sink?

As far as sinks are concerned, I know there are plenty around. Please take a look at our galleries to see the beauty that abounds.

Thanks for the comments. I agree that the clearance is a little tight. It was only 35" before we tore everything out of the old kitchen (this is a house we just bought), but I think we'll be able to increase it to 37" or 38". We'll probably have the countertop go 6-8" beyond the counter into the dining area, but not yet sure if we'll have stools.

Re: please review my kitchen design

I like the look of the hood w/o cabinets around it. I put 36" and 18" cabinets along the back wall - this allows the cabinet at the far left to go right to the wall. I put a 24" base turned towards the living room for more storage and added an overhang to see how it looks - generally moved the sink leg around to try to give you some space around the sink and ease the passage-way. I've kind of lost track of exactly how you had it originally actually. Is there any thought of moving the sink to the back wall? Anyway, what do you think?...

Re: please review my kitchen design

Thanks for all the ideas! There will be an overhang on that side of the counter, probably Corian or Silestone. There will be a counter-height wall on the dining room side of cabinets, so putting in a cabinet on that side is a little more complicated (there are pipes and electrical that go through that wall, and cost constraints require us to leave the sink/dishwasher about where it is). As for the wall cabinets, I'm not sure we want them to go all the way to far left since it would be difficult to reach. But that leads to the question--will it look weird to have an 8-10" gap between the wall and the left-most wall cabinet?
