Hello guys, I'm new here. I just placed my order for Adel Birch cabinets and was told that the horizontal wall cabinets are discontinued. Mine were all 30"x15".

Funny how they are all in stock in the stores, and all over the catalog, but I can't order them. I'm going to get a friend to buy them in person (my closest store is 4 hours away.)

I don't know any of the backstory about why they are being discontinued, I hope I'm not making a mistake by buying them anyway.

That is strange news. I wonder why they would discontinue them? Hopefully it's a mistake and not true. Do keep us posted as you learn any more.

I think you people are lucky on the other side of the world, even when some of your favourite door finishes or products get discontinued. Over here, Western Aus there is not enough people (3mln in the state size of 1/3 of US without Alaska) to get such a wide variety of goods, grrrrrr, so we have to grab anything that takes our fancy in fear that it will be deleted from our range. The explanation from the store here is that not enough is being sold so it is being discontinued. I am afraid that we are not going to see the lazy Susan for the wall cabinet at all. Can you imagine that my kids are going to bring me stuff from European IKEA stores this year to enable me to finish my kitchen!!!!!

i'm hoping that the horizontal is just being redesigned... maybe to be hung on the suspension rail at the same height as the regular wall cabs? that would be cool!

We're beginning the design phase for our addition, which will include a new, 3.5 cook kitchen. [Me, DH, 12 year old DD, and 7 year old DS who is learning to cook.]

I've been pricing cabinets and knew we were going with IKEA boxes, but couldn't find a door style I like ... until I saw the new brochure.

Hmm ... Solar Beech and white doors/drawer fronts, beech & steel counters, ... nice and woody without being too dark. I'm in love

ok. I saw the solar beech stuff, they're on display

so the drawer fronts are solid wood
the doors are solid wood for the handle part, then laminated particle boards

That's what I expect from IKEA.

And if we had an unlimited budget, I'd order custom RTA cabinets (I like assembly) with Douglas fir Shaker style doors ... but we have a very tight budget and need to do a lot with it, so IKEA is the best we can afford.

it's arguably better than "pretty good for the money" as it was ranked 4th by consumer reports, only behind Premier, Diamond and Omega.

You might consider looking into Scherr's for doors, they'll make them ikea compatible.

btw, i'm wondering if the solar is veneer over the particle or indeed laminate (big difference)
