High Cab Pantry Next to Entry Door?

The wall with my oven and fridge hasn't changed much during the design process. But as I'm nearing the point where I need to start buying cabs, I am starting to worry about the 24" pantry next to the entryway from the dining room to the kitchen, and a second one near the side door that leads to the dog run.

I used to have a base and wall cab in both corners, so I didn't think it was a big deal, but I have concerns about it feeling a bit claustrophobic when you walk into the room.

If you need to see more pics of the room to formulate an opinion, they're on my blog A Single Mom's Adventure in Kitchen Remodeling (I'm waiting to start the cabinet process to post pics in the gallery).

Also, to explain the current setup...The base b/t the fridge and pantry is there so there's a landing in b/t them and will be my coffee/toaster oven station, but will only have the drawer. Under the drawer will be a step stool (thanks for the inspiration susan!) and the microwave wall cab will be doorless and used as a bookshelf.

I even thougth about a 12"D instead of a 24"D so I could use for everyday staple good like cereal and snack foods, but worried it would look wired next toa 24"D base.

I wish I could stop second guessing everything! ugh

Second guessing is perfectly natural. Ask anyone who has had their kitchen for more than six months if they can remember what they were obsessing about during the planning, and I doubt you'll get anyone who can even remember!

As far as feeling claustrophobic, that's really very subjective, but it appears you have a huge space so I doubt it will feel tight in reality.

Re: High Cab Pantry Next to Entry Door?

I don't know if this helps or not, but my current outdated kitchen is only 11'7 x 12'7" and not open to other rooms. The 30" deep refrigerator is on your right as you enter, and a wall on your left. It feels extremely claustrophobic. However, it's 6" deeper than a 24" pantry, so hopefully that would make a difference. The kitchen is small, so I'm sure that makes a difference as well.
